265 vs 285

okay help me out on this guys.i have a 2500hd cc d/a

i know the 265-75r16 will fit just fine on the stock rims

.but will the 285-75r16 fit on them okay and will it rub

the gmcs have that lower valance on the front bumper

that im worried about it hitting.the chevys dont have it

also how much will it affect fuel economy if any,i know the

speedo will be off and the dic will be off also.i had one

dealer told me they can recalibrate to 265 only and another

tell me they can recvalibrate to any size.i dont want to trim

the valance at all so any help will be apprecuiated.

please dont jugde me on my spelling

I just put 265/75 All terrain K/O BFG's and they look awesome. I didnt go with the 285's cause i was worried about Low end torque loss. I can tell a slight difference (can smok'em quite as far ) with the 265's but they are definately worth it. They look much better than those tiny 245's.

Did you have to do anything to fit those 265 BFG's? I am thinking about getting those as well for mine. Have you used them in snow? If so are they better/worse than the stock tires?

No road noise, rides great, no fitting problems. They look a hell of alot better than the stock tires too.

I upgraded my stock 245's to BFG 265's and am very happy!! I had a friend who tried the 285's and while they looked good he didn't want to have to either crank the torsion bars or start trimming so he went back to the 265's and also is very happy!

Its kind of dark so the difference isn't quite as visible but it did make a big difference in my opinion! The BFG's are very quiet, not much more than stock, and the last set I had lasted quite awhile.. As for snow, I have driven my Yukon with the BFG's over the Blue's in Oregon and have never had to resort to chains.. (knock on wood )

If you are worried about the 285's and not sure about the 265's, there are 275/75/R16's out there, think BFG's come in that size and the Goodyear ATS do for sure. I have the Goodyear ATS 275/75R16 on my 2001 and have only had them rub once and I hit a bump pretty hard while turning. I didn't have to trim the valence or anything. I have had them for about 40,000 miles now and they are starting to get to where I need to replace them. Have been great in the snow and stuff here in Denver; even made it out to the airport and back with the 3 foot plus storm two springs ago. I only noticed a small difference in power when I had a decent load in the truck, everyday driving I haven't noticed any power loss.

Here in WI we can't use chains nor studs/spikes so have to rely on just the tires. Are these tires "E" load rated like the originals?

The 265's or 285's should work with the stock rims without and problems. With an aftermarket rim you may have to do some minor trimming to run the 285's. I went with 265's on mine and they are still load range "E". BFG does not make a load range "E" in their All-Terrain tire as yet...

Another option is to go with the 255/85 It is a taller tire but with a smaller tread. The actual hight varies from manufactures. The tires on my truck measure 34.5" tall but have seen them 32-33" tall. Had to make no modifications to the front.

i didnt care too much for my goodyear at/s's. my next tire will certainly be bfg's 265 or 285's. the goodyears had trouble being balances and shimmied at highway speed, they wore fast and uneven, they also seemed to pick up every road hazard they could find.

i had 285's on my 1500 Z-71 and i had no trouble with the size beside they rubbed the front black plastic piece some. i simply trimmed them up some.

I was kind of concerned with the BFG's not being load range E but when I compared the load ranges between the stock 245's and the new BFG 265's it almost the same so I went with the BFG's...

I've got 265 Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's on my GMC. ...Love 'em. Very aggressive & cool looking tread design. (they're load range E)

265s here, Michellin LTX M/S load range E. Much better than the 245s and to me look just right on the stock aluminum wheels, they dont like like the tire is overly wide IMO.
