VaraRam installed

I had to go with the standard kit instead of the full ram air because they are apparently selling really fast but I'll add the ram attachment soon.Anyway, installation is very easy as it took me all of 15 minutes while watching my 9 week old Lab puppy. Here's some pics:

Now on to some questions people may have:

Things I like are

1)Ease of installation.

2)Throttle response,it's very noticeable

3)Fit and finish, seems to be a solid air box

What I don't like:

The mounting system of the standard kit. There is a metal plate below the stock air box and it is removed for the positioning of the inlet for the new intake. The King Cobra has a rubber plate in the kit but it is very flexible so the only things really holding the air box into place are the new rubber plate and the MAF assembly. You can move the air box around with basically no effort which does concern me but I'll be upgrading to the full ram air soon so it shouldn't pose a problem.

Overall,I'll give it an 8.5 out of 10 for now and that may rise depending on fuel mileage reports to come in the next few weeks.I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye on the connection to the MAF sensor though because it does move around quite a bit and that does somewhat concern me,though it may just be me.

so you are satisfied with the performance gain Frank? I have mine ordered and i hope it gets here soon so i can try it out (i got the full system). Do you think your seeing the .05-1.0 second gains in the 0-60mph like they said you would?

I'd have to say that using the "butt dyno",I probably dropped around .5 second 0-60 time. The difference is definitely noticeable.

Like I said,I will be adding the ram air attachment and I have no doubt that I will meet or exceed their advertized performance gains.I highly doubt you'll be disappointed Linda.

Not yet.

I had a little over half a tank when I installed the intake so by the time it fully dialed in (40-60 miles per VaraRam),there wasn't really much room for a test.

I did fill my truck up about an hour ago and I do mostly city driving so I should be able to give a true first tank report in about a week or so.

I ran 3 tanks through mine since installing the VaraRam (like Frank I too do not have the full system yet) I agree there is an improvement in response and power.

My truck only has 1700 miles on it but with my last tank I got 15.7 running mostly highway @ 70 mph , the tank before that was only 13.9 but a lot of stop & go driving and idling, and the first tank with the VaraRam I got 15.1 running hard @ 75-80.

The first few tanks of gas in the truck while stock were 13.8 - 14.1 running fairly consistent on the highway.

I'm convinced there are defiantly some mpg gains but I think the 4 mpg stated on their web site is a bit optimistic, I going to run the airbox for a while longer to get some good data then add the "ram air" portion.

I'm interested what others results are.

Well,my first full tank is through and here are my results:

Mostly city driving (80% +/-)

Before VaraRam - 11-11.5 mpg

First tank with VaraRam - 11.09 mpg

I don't know, maybe I'll see an improvement when I'm on the highway or something but I'm getting pretty much the same thing with the intake as I was without it.I do like the improved throttle response which was the main reason I'm not disappointed and it'll be interesting to see if there's any change when I add the ram air attachment to it.

Thanks for the information - It looks like i'm going to pass on this product. Please let us know if you get any improvements.

    • https://precisionlubrication.com/articles/oil-filter-efficiency/     For them it is a problem of $$$$ and compliance. To cover both they have to lie from the heart.    Government wants low waste oil numbers so the bar needs to be very low on contamination to met that requirement.  Consumer wants cheap maintenance (perceived cost). Again requiring a low bar.  OEM wants high margins at a cost effective warranty rate and lots of repeat customers. More low bar.  Filter manufacture wants the same thing the OEM wants. See the pattern?   Consumers are fickle and also want perfection requiring a HIGH bar. Inconsistent with all of the above. Consumers can be, when the put their minds to it, inquisitive, love winning arguments which requires some useful information to be available to support them. And this is where it gets sticky and the lies begin.    Information needs a solid well grounded point of reference if we are to compare in a useful way. There is a standard for this.  ISO 4548-12. This standard sets the particle size at a specific Beta ratio and darn few are faithful to its intent.    If they don't state the test method they change the particle size or the Beta ratio to hit a perceived favorable standard. They obscure the information in a way as to prevent direct comparisons leaving the consumer with one method. UOA's with an ISO 4406 test result. Pricey and not allot of labs willing to do the work. Lobby work happens everywhere, not just at the seat of government.

    • Good Morning Gents..hope everyone is enjoying a beautiful saturday morning. I have a 2001 GMC Sierra that I bought used in 2018. I am the 2nd owner and its a beautiful truck. Ive put about 60,000 miles on it and recently the front end has felt funny. Kind of loose when hitting bumps adn sometimes I actually feel a "bang" in the steering wheel. I took it to a local guy who said that everything was tight and he tightened the steering box. It didnt feel much better, so I had him replace the front shocks, which had noto been done since I bought it. It had the check enging light on so I took it into a local garage to fix that and check out the suspension. Everything is original and the rubber bushings that I can see look bad. They said everything was tight and there wasnt any play in the front end. Im concerned about the banging feeling in the wheel. Ive been driving this truck for 8 years, so I know how it usually feels and this is something new. Its a second vehicle, so I dont drive it all the time, but Im trying to use it more often. I live out in the country and some of the  roads are kind of rough and I alive on gravel roads. Anyone deal with anything like this before?
    • Yes of course. There’s no experience in the Trump organization in hiring contractors. it’s not like they’re experienced in that field.😆
    • Well, 2 no-bid contracts to donors didn't seem to result in a good job...
