A/C Help

After my wife was stuck on the road for 7 1/2 hrs. in the remenents(sp?) of Gaston a couple of days later she reported that the A/C was no longer blowing cold. After further inspection by myself I noticed that the light on the Climate Control Cluster was coming on, but I did not hear the cur chunk of the compressor coming on. Do you guys have any ideas on what could be the problem? I put a pressure gauge on it and it appears to be fine on pressure. I also check all the fuses. However, I do not know how to check the relays or if the compressor itself is just gone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Year, Model, Engine??

I have had a lot of expirence in dealing with AC Trouble. I just recently replaced pretty much all the major compenents to these systems. First thing I woudl do is check the low pressure switch on the accumulator. Try to jump it with a paper clip and see if the compressor comes on. If it comes on with a paper clip then you know your pressure switch has gone south. Based on the information that you gave (pressure and fuses ok) I would emagine this is the problem. Maybe it got wet. Hope this helps.

If the pressures are good, do the cycling switch jumper as suggested in the previous post. There have been a lot of A/C parts replaced due to a faulty switch. If the compressor starts cycling you have found your problem.

The belt around the compressor is gone.  :D Figures. Any idea how hard this thing is to replace?

Hmm...thats very interesting. I hope by "gone" you mean worn out, and not literally missing. That'd be interesting.

If its anything like my 94' then its super easy. But these motors only have one belt...not sure how yours works..

The ac belt is independent of the serpentine belt on my 99, I'm assuming that yours is the same way. I don't think that it's that hard to replace. Check and make sure that the tensioner didn't sieze before replacing the belt...hopefully the compressor moves also. I'd replace both belts since the serp belt has to come off to do the ac belt anyway.
