door speaker

On my 02 Silverado the one door speaker fell out against the door grill, the dealer fixed that under warranty. According to the bill they installed new speakers in both doors.

My problem now is my drivers side door speaker fell out again and is up against the grill. Can I just pop out the grill and install the speaker or do I have to take the entire door panel off to get to the speaker?

Thanks

It's been a year or so, but from what I recall...There are three screws.

-Pop the lock slider out gently with a flat object.

-Pop out the piece of plastic that surrounds the inside opening lever. (There is a screw hidden under there.

-Then lift the door panel straight up (gently, as there are wires still attached).

-Unplug the entry lights, wiring harness for the door locks and windows, and seat heaters if applicable.

That should be it. If not, do a couple of searches, I know that there was a walkthrough on this a year or two ago...Might take some digging.

I've pulled mine off a couple of times, and if I remember correctly, there are 2 screws...I think. I always pop the triangle shaped cover that is up by the side view mirror first. Next remove the power lock/window switch bezel and unplug the connectors. There will be a 7 mm screw under there. There is another 7 mm by the armrest. Remove the bezel around the door handle with a flat screwdriver or a panel popper and the door lock button with a small screwdriver. Lift straight up and balance the panel so you can remove the tweeter connector and the interior light connector at the rear of the panel. That should be it...if I remember anything else once my coffee starts working I'll be sure to edit my post.

Oh yea, I always check and make sure that my window regulator bolts are tight while I'm in there, since I had a problem with them loosening up when I first got the truck...cheap insurance.

There are two screws; one under the interior handle cover, the other is at the very bottom (underneath) of the middle of the panel. Remove the mirror triangle cover, pop out the door lock slider, pop the lock/window control panel off and disco your wire harnesses. The panel should lift straight out.

As far as speakers go, why not upgrade once you have the panel off??? I put Infinity Kappas in mine and love them. My wife found me a brand new set of the component speakers on E-Bay for $150 (half price!). Food for thought.

Component speakers? I'm way behind the power curve on that one. Did the Infinity speakers fit right in?

Thanks.

Well, you'll have to drill four mount holes for each woofer (no big deal) and I used a small piece of black cardboard to mount the tweeter right into the OE tweeter's hole. The install was pretty straightforward, except now I really need to swap the head unit so I can put the 4-channel amp in to really run them right! It never ends.

not to highjack the thread or anything, but can someone tell me what size speakers I should buy as replacement door speakers? My pass' door speaker rattles like crazy. I don't think it's "blown" because I never turn the radio up much. Do you think that it could be a warranty issue?

Check to make sure that the tweeter is still attached, they like to break off, and rattle around.

I have 6-1/2" woofers in the Infinity system, but a 6-3/4" would probably be a better fit. Either way you're going to drill so I bought the Infinities which I liked best anyway. After seeing how the OE speakers were made/mounted I'm not surpised they rattle and/or fell out.

    • Which one, the AT or AS?   Starfire is made by Cooper/Goodyear but at $85/tire I'd think I'd need to level-set my expectations that they may not even be round 😉 But you're saying they're decent?   I'm already into this thing $1506 in parts, fluids, etc. Totaled all my receipts today. $250 of that was replacing an EGR and MAP sensor that were probably fine, but I'm not going to return the parts since they've been installed. I'm cheap, but not that cheap. I use it, I keep it!   I may or may not make money if I sell the truck at this point, but, that wasn't really the point. And if I billed my time, I'd be hosed for real. My thought on the tires is I "might" put 1,000 miles on before selling it. I just don't want to put absolute junk on it, that doesn't do anyone any good. If the Solus solidly isn't junk, I'll definitely consider them.
    • I leave mine as is. I'm always a trip away from riding on unpaved roads. Dealer can clean it when they prep it after I trade it in for another new truck.
    • I have these on two vehicles and love them. Pepper is one of them 😉
    • 4WD. Far as I know it came stock with P's and not LT's. Definitely planning to put P's on it, but stock is a 109 XL load rating so I should probably stick within that guideline.   No rebates on anything I can see at the moment. Discount Tire is offering $50 off, but Pep Boys is very competitive on price, and also carries all the off-brand stuff. Les Schwab always wants an arm/leg, but they do good work.   It still has the original spare. Goodyear Wrangler RT/S, thing looks like a tractor tire LOL!! How times have changed.
    • 2020 Sierra 2500 HD (base model) gas engine 4wd.    All 4 windows roll down on their own. Happens somewhat randomly after stop and engine off - when engine turned off, when walking away from vehicle before or after locks activated. Pulled the window fuse F14 Instrument Panel Fuse Block Right; the driver's side still activates from driver's side door panel; passenger and back seat windows activate from local switches on their doors but not from driver's side group of switches. Power mirrors don't activate with fuse removed either (same fuse for both circuits). Problem not solved.    How can they even activate with fuse removed but they are all still opening and can control from each door?  When they open on their own, I can shut them from the switch in each door, but they don't stay closed.    Seems to be activated somehow with key fob; something bumping the key fob in my pocket or just handling - removed key fob and took it far enough away and now the windows stay closed. Replaced key fob batty just in case, no change.    Sounds like some kind of wiring short or maybe electronics. Dealer will first replace electronic control module without checking anything else and I anticipate problem will still exist since their troubleshooting skills are limited to "do whatever the computer says".  In any case, keyfob seems to be activating the circuitry.    Surely I'm not the only one with this issue, but I can't find anything related on the site. What do yall think?   JohnRoy
