Water In The Cab

Alright people, I've been racking my friggin' mind trying to figure out where this water is coming from. After a good down pour, the carpet on the driver side is soaking wet. This wet spot is about 3 inches wide and it runs along the left side of my floor mat on the drive side. It is wet along the cab wall...roughly from the fire wall to the front of the seat.

Any ideas? I've only owned the truck for roughly 3 months....

'99 Silverado Z71 (old body style)

I would appreciate any ideas so I can start investigating....again.

My son's S-10 was getting wet as you described, but on the passenger side. The plastic moulding between the carpet and door frame was not properly snapped through holes in the foor when a stereo installer removed an old cable. Every time he drove in the rain, water would spray up through the holes and be wicked into the carpet on the right side. I don't remember if my '99 had this type of moulding or not.

If you bought the truck used make sure it wasn't wrecked in the past. Go to any body shop and they should be able to tell you.

If there are no signs of prior accident damage the first thing I would check is the windshied.

Also run water down your windshield into the cowl area, it should come out the drain under your truck if it doesn't come out or comes out slow your cowl drain could be plugged up?

If all fails get a buddy to run water on the outside of the cab in the area of the leak while you lay inside with a flashlight watching for water. Start out running the water down low and working your way up to the top of the truck if need be.

Good luck water & wind leaks can be difficult to find.

My buddies '02 HD has been in the shop twice for water leaks... The body shop claimed that the drivers window was out of adjustment. (sounds strange to me...)

My buddy thinks it may be because of his visor, and the way the water flows off it.

I had the exact same problem on my 2002 Sierra. It just got back from the shop last wednesday. The said the probelm was the back glass. They replaced that seal and the drivers side door seals. We got a lot of rain this week and it's nice and dry now. They replaced the carpet and padding too all under warranty.
