Steering clunck....AGAIN!

I am sorry to beat a rotting horse even more but I bought my Z71 in December and as luck would have it, it had the clunk in the steering. GM has some silicone filler, so says the dealer, that fixes this so I raised hell and they repaired the problem free of charge. Now the damned thing is back and I'm puzzled. Is there a way I can fix this and also is this going to keep coming back? I really don't want to wait at the stealership for eight hours while they watch the water drip from the cooling pipes here in Texas.

Thanks for your replies

I think that they have an UPDATED steering shaft to correct that problem, at least thats what I've read....but I do not have the part number

Mine is going in next Thursday for the "new" intermediate steering shaft. I'll try to ask for a visual comparison of new vs old to see how different or improved the design really is. After having five years to think about such a simple problem, one would hope they've finally figured it out. I'll report back if I get any good info.

I just took my truck in the other day. The dealer says the replacement shafts are on back order. They also say that GM has told them not to "fix" them any more but to replace them. Once you are put on the list for a replacement, GM will not warranty the regreasing fix.
