Today's truck engines are designed to work best with certain amounts of backpressure. You can lower it some and get improvement in power, but you take too much backpressure away and you'll lose power. The louder sound may trick you into thinking you've added power, but more than likely without mufflers, you'd probably lose low end power. I'd just go with a 40 series flowmaster if you want loudness, but still want low end power. Either way, resonance inside the cab may get on your nerves or people that ride in it. Hopefully others will chime in, Chris

I have friend that straightpiped his Z-71 and at 60 pulling a trailer the noise is unbearable. He also lost alot of low end power, the truck will downshift going down the interstate on even a slight grade without a trailer.
