water spots on windows

I live in a hard water area. th water spots are almost impossible to remove. Ive washed them 10 times with many types of window cleaners with no luck

A very fine polish compound (something without wax) will get the water spots off. Test it first on a small spot beforehand just in case.

 

I use Diamondite for my glass and really like it even though it can be a lot of work. It does essentially the same thing as a polish.

Use a glass polish like Zaino Z-12, Groit's glass polish works great too

You can use a diluted solution of CLR. Works really well.

You have what you need to clean your windows in the kitchen. I have used it for years on my jetski to remove water spots. Its called vinegar. Since vinegar is a very mild acid, actually it is glacial acetic acid, and the water spots are nothing more than a calcium residue left behind after the water evaporates. The vinegar disolves the calcium and you are left with clean windows. I usually dilute the vinegar with water.

You might try using what water softners systems use........salt. I gotta replace the salt in my water softner every month. That SOB uses it up.

White vinigar is best. Works good. Also, if not to bad, Stoners and newspaper gets mine off.

Salt (NaCl) doesn't remove water spots or actually even soften the water, it just is used to regenerate the media in the water softner (ion exchange) Ca <-> Na so it wont "plug" up.

I use "Barkeeper's Friend" which is just like a very fine Comet type cleaner. This stuff is cheap and really cleans/polishes the glass.

I've heard of this as well. I suppose the principle is the same for glass and for porcelain sinks. Just be sure to use light pressure and be careful about leaving it on any metal.

I have hard water and have two proven methods.

 

 

1) Barkeepers Friend. It is inexpensive and available in most grocery stores. It comes in a can (gold label) like Comet. It is for Stainless Steel, porcelain, glass, and etc. I saw it on one of the Saturday TV car shows.

 

I wet my windshield, sprinkle some of the barkeepers friend on a rag and apply it to the windshield and rinse well with plenty of water. I try not to get in on the paint (that's the reason for putting it on the rag) and don't know if it will harm it and don't want to find out the hard way. This stuff works great it removes bugs, road film and for the money my favorite choice.

 

2) DuraGloss winshield spot remover. available around here at local auto parts stores. Kinda pricey.
