Discoverer H/T Plus vs Fortera

I have searched and not found any definitive takes on Cooper Discoverer H/T Plus, or the Goodyear Fortera.

Im looking at 285/50-20 size, so my choices are limited.

I want a good all weather traction, quiet tire, so if anyone has any other suggestions Im open to them. I WILL NOT put Firestones on my vehicle though, never had a pair last more than 10k.

My tire store also mentioned Cooper Zeon tires, but an internet search revelaed several recent recalls on some of their sizes.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I'm looking at 20's right now myself. I'm finding that a lot of people like the Bridgestone Dueler H/P's. I consider Bridgestone a level above Firestone and the Dueler A/T's I've had in the past performed really well.

The only complaints I find about the H/P's are those idiots who put these are their vehicles thinking they will be a good snow/ice tire...

For what it's worth, the November issue of Consumer Reports rates SUV and light-truck tires and the Forter (HL Edition) is rated #1. It's rated as follows:

Braking (dry and wet): Excellent

Handling: Very good

Hydroplaning: Very good

Rolling resistance: Fair (affects MPGs)

Snow traction: Very good

Ice braking: Good

Ride: Fair

Noise: Good

I'll vouch for the ratings. I've had Forteras (285/50 20) on for about 14K. No sign of wear yet. Much quieter than even the stock tires. Rain is NO PROBLEM, It rains pretty hard here in Central Florida and I have never felt the slighest hint of hydroplaning. No snow or ice yet obviously but so far these are great.

007, the question is has it STOPPED raining in Central Florida yet?

I have seen 3 or 4 lists, and the tire consistently at the top of them is the Fortera. Others come and go, but its at or near the top of all of them.

My only concern, not really a big one, is how much will they effect mileage. One person on one page listed he dropped from 17.8mpg to 13.6mpg after getting Forteras. I'm wondering if he changed tire sizes as well.

I just put the Zeon 285/50/20 on my truck and really like the tire. Googled and only came up with one recall on the tires, but that's definately something to consider. Bought the Zeons for $695/set shipped off internet. This was the best price I found on tires that had a little more aggressive tread pattern.
