HI-LIFT jacks

Recommended Posts

Thinking about buying one. My dads 2 ton floor jack is struggling to get the front of my truck off the ground (wont go high enough).

Anyone ever use one on a silverado?  How easy to use are they?

Thanks

Hi-Lift jacks are easy to use, more of an emergency thing though.  My 1-1/2 ton jack doesn't even get to my frame rail fully extended so I just set a 6x6 wood block on top of it when I jack the truck up.  I don't know if I would use a hi-lift on a new truck for regular jacking.  Where would you hook it up to?  If nothing else invest 120 bucks in a 3 ton floor jack.

I have several Hi-lifts and love them but for around the shop use they are not the best thing to have.  Hi-lifts are more for agricultural and hard-core off road use.  Like someone else said, there is no good way to hook up one to a silverado or even a 88-98 for that matter.  The front bumpers are too rounded at the bottom.  You could buy the adapter for rounded bumpers but it still scars up the bumper.  Hi-lifts are some of the most useful mechanical tools available...I have used mine to winch out my truck before, pick up assorted farm equipment, spread things apart, etc, etc.  However, Hi-lifts, by their nature, are somewhat unstable and could fall into your truck if not careful causing serious paint and body damage.  This does not matter for a work truck, piece of equipment or an off-road machine but for a "pretty truck" (like our 2000 models) it would be bad.  This is unavoidable in off-road use but for around the shop use the floor jack would be a better choice.
