Too much power?

I have been debating the Supercharger route for a few months. No one around here seems to want to install them, and trying to get info from any of the manufacturers is a royal PITA.

I have the Westers, Corsa Exhaust, and Volant intake, is there someplace I could reasonably get another 50HP (REAL hp, not advertised HP) without doing too much?

If it wasnt for dropping the fuel tank, The Magnacharger might be my choice. The Whipple looks enticing, but their directions stink compared to the Magnacharger.

My question, thought, whatever, is a Supercharger too much HP? I think the Suburban would be a little too touchy on the throttle with that much power. Hell I dont know.

Anyone thats been through this process feel free to give my your thoughts!

TIA!

 I doubt the suburban will be touchy.------ITS YOU THAT MIGHT BE A LIL TOUCHY ON THAT THROTTLE ALL THE TIME.

What year and motor are you dealing with here?

2004 5.3L

Im actually trying to be serious here! :flag:

Im probably going to put in a Magnacharger myself. It looks rather easy, I just hate dropping fuel tanks in my garage.

I was wondering if I missed a piece of the puzzle somewhere. Im going to make sure I had Lyndon Wester take out the Torque management for one thing.

Maybe one of them Tornado things for my air intake, they are good for 50HP arent they?

Dropping the fuel tank ... your kidding right??!?!?

Its only held up bu 2 straps isnt it?? and the only thing to worry about would be the weight of it, of course if it has gas in it.

Need to drop the tank to change out the in tank fuel pump. It isnt hard, but I could tell you HORROR stories about being a military mechanic, office pogues, and the cleaning of fuel tanks from Diesel Blazers and Pick Ups that nincompoops put gas in instead of Diesel. The tank really doesn't scare me, its just I swore Id never do another!

However, to save $800 to $1500 installation, I think I could do one more.

***EDIT*** Spelling and Grammar, as usual

I wouldn't even drop the tank. Just unbolt the bed and slide it off. 4 guys can do it in seconds. It's easier than bench-pressing a gas tank back up.

I usually do that when I get blessed with a fuel pump job...

Why not just go with turbo?

No turbo Because:

1. $800 Corsa Cat Back exhaust

2. I need low end grunt. Once this thing gets up to where the turbo lag is gone, its not a problem. On my DMAX it was 25 to 30 MPH before you could really feel the turbo punch in, by then the Suburban is fine.

Oh yeah, taking off the bed idea is a good idea, but I have a Suburban!

Im considering a Vortech now where before I didnt. The guy I built my DMAX with swears by them and installing a new torque converter.

***EDIT*** Considering a Vortech, not sure if it acts like a turbo or you get torque down low. Id say its probably like a turbo. Right now the Magnacharger or Whipple are the direction Im leaning

I tried the Gibbs route.

1. IF the dealer installs it. I was turned down by 8 dealers. The one that would install it wanted $1500 over the price they sell the kit at ($5600) which is supposed to be the installed price.

2. The dealer that would install it had a disclaimer for me to sign voiding my warranty on any/all engine/drivetrain components immediately, even if it was obvious the Supercharger install did not cause the problem. Gibbs warranties the Supercharger, not GM.

The Gibbs folks were VERY helpful, but all of the "Joe Gibbs" Chevy dealers seemed like they didnt want to be bothered by the whole thing.

Im getting a Whipple installed by the guy that put the tranny in my truck. $5000 out the door. He has one in his 2003 Suburban, he has two people that work near him with Avalanches he did in the last two months, and his work looks better than factory. Im done!

Im going to get the order in tomorrow on the Whipple. The guy doing it has about 10 vehicles with all 3 on them, but the Magnacharger is giving his Tahoe and his daughters Subruban fits, where his Suburban (5.3L 2004) is running smooth on the Whipple.

Ill give it a shot, hopefully its the right one! (His profit margin is also higher on the Magnacharger as well, his Son lives next to me)
