Is that differential noise? NO!

Here is one I've never heard of. I have a '99 Yukon (4dr.) with 95k miles on the ticker. Several months ago I started noticing a roar/vibration that appeared to be coming from the rear end when cruising at 55 to 70 mph. I took it to a dealer to exercise my Extended Warranty operating under the name of either "Smart-Choice", "Easy-Care" (of which I discovered they had went bankrupt last year and ordered to liquidate their assets). The technicians could not find any problems with the rearend using a stethoscope and blamed it on the tires. I balance and rotate my tires every 5k miles and them also being Michelins I did not figure that to be the culprit. Since I was about 10k miles from needing new tires I went ahead and replaced them. This was not the problem as I expected. It turns out the front bow on the roof rack was too far back, causing wind turbulence that created the roar/vibration. They moved the bow foward and no more roar/vibration.

Does that not beat all?

This is my first post and hope that I don't develop a reputation for being long winded!

jdhudson,

That sucks man. It sounds like you may have a storm cloud over your head. It is just lucky they did not start "part swapping" before they found the bow problem. They shoud have a stopper on the front most bow to prevent this hard to find problem.
