We finally got to take the atvs out last weekend, and I was finally brave enough to take my digital camera so we could document our fun... lol

The majority of us are programmers from the same company here in Jackson (weird that we're outside, I know) and we try to go on this trip at least once a year. There's a lot of pics and a bunch of videos, so I'll just post a few I guess...

It will probably be painful on dial up, so just stick with high speed access if you wanna see them.

The view out the back of our cabin:

The first big hill:

A few videos of the bikes going up the hill:

Me on the Kodiak:

Grizzly:

Group Shot, since the camera is sitting on my bike, I'm standing up.

The bikes from the left. Jarod (J-Rod here) and his g/f Katie on his Raptor 660,

Johnny on a Grizzly 660, Robby and Donna on a Yamaha Kodiak 400 4wd, Shawn on a Honda Rancher ES 4wd, Doug on a Honda 300 (the only 2wd), my bike is holding the camera up, a Kodiak 450 IMG_0588.JPG

Here's me tearing up the Honda 300, It broke a Inner tie rod end from this 1 foot tall jump... Dang it.

I can't remember how they got me to smile, but I'm sure it took some work, as I was fairly pissed at this point. lol

Jarod thought this was funny for some reason...

Demonstrating the ease of wheelie popping on the Raptor:

Jarod decided he was mad at the honda, so he flung some dirt at it.

Towing the 300 out with my Kodiak, 4 miles of some really interesting hills and washouts and junk...

http://strongbadder.ride-ms.net/public/pic...cs/IMG_0662.JPG

The Raptor started leaking oil for some reason, so it was towed back too...

Finally made it to the truck

The Grizzly in a little bit of mud, I was gonna help but someone had to video... I finally gave in though. lol :

It was a great trip, for those that don't ride Atvs, you should give it a shot. It's awesome!

Yeah, it was definitely alot of fun! If anyone would like to ride there sometime and needs the info, just PM Will or I and we can get ya all the contact info and answer any questions ya might have.

Well, I haven't visited the forums in MONTHS (shame on me!!!!) so needless to say, I'm a tad behind.

/me is gone to catch up on his GMTC readin'! :flag:

Looks like fun.  I was thinking about getting a Kodiak.  How do you like it?  Is it a manuel tranny?  I heard that they were all autos.

I like it a lot... It's proved to be tough as hell so far, plenty of power, and will go through all sorts of junk.

You're right too, in that they can only be had in an Automatic. I rode Hondas for a long time, and I figured I'd never like an auto bike, but it does great. It stays in the Powerband all the time, and engine breaks great when going down hill. The main reason I bought the 05' Kodiak was the Independant Rear Suspension... They make a 400cc and a 450cc. I got the 450 since it came with a digital dash, Low-range (Same tranny as the Grizzly),and a differential lock when in 4wd.

Everyone thats ridden it seems to like the ride, as the Rear IRS makes it nice and smooth.

The full specs are on it here... Specs

I think I'll look at the older ones then.  I prefer a manuel.  Glad to hear some positives, since I don't know anyone with a Kodiak.  Thanks for the help

No problem man.

You might want to check out the Big Bear 400's. They still have a manual transmission. A friend of mine here has one, and it is a tank... (He doesn't do much, if any, routine maintenance, and his runs great!)

Cool Pics man! :chill:

What went wrong on the jump? Did it Nose-dive?

LOL ... if Will's head weren't so fat it would have been fine. It was all the extra weight when he leaned forward.

"Move your head ... it's friggin huge! It looks like an orange on a toothpick! It's like Sputnik!"

Not really, it landed flat... The inner tie rods were just worn pretty bad, and the left one decided to give out when I landed. Sucks because it was someone elses bike. I got the replacements put in a few nights ago though, and he got his bike back better than new last night! In case any one is wondering, Aligning a atv's front end is a pain. lol

HAR!!! :chill:

Yeah yeah, that's it... I was just trying to show how the old school 300 could out jump the Raptor. I guess it can't... lol

Nice pics bro. I just bought the 2005 Kawasaki Brute Froce 4x4i. The thing is a monster. I've been riding for a while but this is my first quad. Now I just need to look for some trails here in NY. I'm taking it to PA this weekend though. My cousin has a Polaris and we'll tear it up in PA NY style.

Great pics! Looks like a perfect place to ride.

I've got a Z400...And I'm seriously considering buying a utility ATV to add to the stable. Most of the guys I ride with, ride utes. They can go places I can't, and that bothers the crap out of me. :(

Geez, looks like a awesome place to ride! That lake is really nice looking. Good photos.

I had a 2000Kodiak 400 that was an auto. I liked it ok-great acceleration, good traction and smooth ride. I did get disgusted with the auto as the belt-housing air intake hose had a habit of letting water into the belt-housing which made it slip. You had to drain the water out and wait for the belt to dry.

So now I am sold on manual-shift atvs for their dependability. I have a 2003 4x4 Honda Foreman 450S and my wife has a 2003 4x4 Honda Rancher 350S. Both manuals. I guess I wouldn't recommend a manual to new riders as it's easy to choose the wrong gear on a steep hill and get into trouble. But no belts to worry about and no chance of getting a wet belt in deep water.

Bad thing is there's not many utility ATV manuals still being made. I think Honda is still making the Rancher and Foreman. Yamaha still has a few. Not sure about the other manufacturers.

Dang, that's strange about the water. I've ridden mine up to the exhaust (well over the tranny case, and haven't had a bit of trouble). I was looking really hard at the Foreman 450 when I bought mine, and if I hadn't had a yamaha dirtbike on trade, I would own the honda now. :(

I got no regrets though, that Kodiak proved itself and then some last weekend.

If I could just figure out a way to make the bike clean itself, it's sitting in the garage with about 50lbs of dirt in each fender right now. lol.

As far as the utility bikes, I checked out the Kawasakis, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Honda. All seemed to be really well made. I got a little price break on the Yamaha since I was trading in the same make, so I went with them. I didn't get a chance to go look at Polaris, but they have some pretty good ones I think too.

J-rod managed to go through all the junk we did (or around it) and he could take off on the pits and such on the Raptor... I'd almost want to have both too. Utility for work and mud, and the sport bike just for the fun factor. :(

    • As the title suggests, I have an unused General Motors authorization code for a set of bed perimeter lighting lamps that I bought. My truck was built with the option for perimeter lighting, and they worked without programming… So now I just have this code. What is it good for now? Can anyone here use it?

    • Missing pieces of the Assembly   Detergency vs Solvency   Not the same thing. Detergency is the mechanism that surrounds solid particulates preventing amalgamation. Usually accompanied by a Dispersant whose job it is to keep those encapsulated particles in Suspension. Solvency keeps things that can be dissolved in solution.    Salt is a solid that can be dissolved. Pepper is a solid that cannot be dissolved. A detergent/dispersant is effective on pepper but a solvent is more effective on salt. As long as the solids remain in either state, dissolved or dispersed then they can be be removed with the oil upon change.    How many wranglers does it take to herd cats? Depends on how many cats your herding. How much sponge does it take to soak up water? How much water is there to soak up? Point is most oil blends start with some herding ability and next to zero sponge and recently even fewer wranglers are being sent to do the same job.    So you start with a dozen cowboys and zero cows but at the drive progresses you pick up cows along the way, but not cowboys. At some point you have more cows that the wranglers can handle and some leave the herd. Deposits. And the API has an acceptable number of cows they are willing to let loose. In the ideal world zero is the right number for he rancher but to the butcher....a few lost is fine. This cow is beat to death. Let's move on....   Solvency isn't something oils on the Walmart shelf care about AT ALL. Problem is, you motor does. Fuels driven varnish sticks rings and only a solvent can keep them in check. The bet is that the solids driven portion that plug the expander rings and the oil drain backs and VVT screens and AFM screens will be an issue long before varnish is. Not that it wont be but if they market well enough the consumer can be kept ignorant enough to either believe it is "normal" (A quart in 1 or 2K is normal) OR is kept at bay longer than the first owner is likely to hang on to the unit. Solvency cost money.    Now the OEM's have John Q. Public buffaloed into the belief that the number cows accumulated along the trail is a known and predictable CONSTANT. It isn't. Nor is the rate at which they crossed paths with them. Only the number of wrangles is constant. Or was. Each new generation of oil sees fewer and fewer of them.    So what happens when the number of cowboys is lower (lower TBN) with each seasons trail but the trial is longer (OCI) and the number of cows along that trail continues increase? (Conditions that promote deposits).    For awhile the blenders were on to something. Better bases are harder to degrade (fewer cows) but that was overtaken by a longer trail (OCI) and improved breeding (More cows) while continuing to reduce the cowboy staffing levels (TBN/Aniline #).    Marketing has been successful. We've fired most of the staff, cows breed line bunnies, the trail is ten times longer and we've convinced the boss his ranch is in better shape that it ever was.    That kids is just the cleaning side. The side few pay attention to.
