THE BIGPUNN Posted October 29, 2001 Posted October 29, 2001 i cant decide between staying w/265's or going to 285's. i do no off-roading, mostly city/highway. 265's of course are cheaper which is good (saving for a big screen tv!). any advise? oh, thinking about going w/ pirelli a/t.
Shaners Posted October 29, 2001 Posted October 29, 2001 285's look really good, but I love my big screen TV too... If you go with 285's you may want to get your speedo recalibrated. Another tire that I have run in the past and thought was great was the Cooper Discoverer AT. It's a little more aggressive (and slightly noisier) than stock, but get's great traction in snow and rain.
Smitty00Z71 Posted October 29, 2001 Posted October 29, 2001 I just got new 285 Brigstones Duleler AT's last week. I have to say it's the best thing I have ever done to my truck. The truck finially rides good since I got rid of those ####$y firestones. As for the speedo, I found it was off my 3 or 4 mph after 70 mph. Meaning when I going 70mph, I was actually going about 73 or 74, not a big deal
chevy4x4trucks Posted October 29, 2001 Author Posted October 29, 2001 Bigger is better, you might as well spend the few extra bucks now, you don't want to be kicking yourself about it later.
Kansas Kid Posted October 29, 2001 Posted October 29, 2001 I personally would go with some LT rated 265's. I do agree that the 285's may look a little better, but they are just too wide for my tastes. If you live in an area where you get alot of snow, you will probably be better off with the narrower tire. Either way you go, it will be better then the stock tires.
Markeaux Posted October 30, 2001 Posted October 30, 2001 Don't 285 75's require a lift on the late model trucks/SUVs? They are saying that over at http://209.35.112.209/performance/messages/141094.html
RyanbabZ71 Posted October 30, 2001 Posted October 30, 2001 I have 285's (for over 12K miles now) with no lift and no problems
LT Posted October 30, 2001 Posted October 30, 2001 This is a little bit off this topic but I heard that all of the Firestone AT's have been recalled. My 2001 Silverado came with them and the dealer said not to worry. The are not the same as those on the Fords. Anyone heard anything about it? ???
Markeaux Posted October 30, 2001 Posted October 30, 2001 Ryan are you 2w or 4wd? A new response at http://209.35.112.209/performance/messages/141368.html says 285/75s needed wheel liner pullback, etc, on his (2w?) Z71. Curious.
brax71 Posted October 31, 2001 Posted October 31, 2001 i have a z-71 with 285 BFG A/T's on it and had no problem at all. the only thing that you might have to do is crank the torsion bars a couple turns (if your front end sits particularly low from the factory). if you do that, get it aligned. if you do a search for torsion bars or even for 285's, you'll get lots and lots of information! that was among my very favorite upgrades.
