My drive line sounds like a train

Does anyone else's truck make a god awful clunk/bang sound when shifting into reverse or drive from reverse, drive, or neutral?? This is nuts, the truck only has 5k on it (04 silverdao 5.3l). I took it to teh dealer and they said this is normal??!! What a bunch of crap. No truck should sound like this.

Welcome to the club! My '02 has done the same thing since day one and is considered 'normal' by any dealership that has looked at it.

My brother has a 2000 Silverado that does the same thing. The dealer told him the same crap when it was new. The truck now has 70k on it and still makes the noise but he has had no other problem with the clunk mechanically. I suspect it has to be a problem in the rear ring and pinion adjustment or in the transfer case both of which can be expensive to experiment with. Sorry I don't have a solution.
