In what use to be mine, but now my wifes Dodge, I have found that takeing off in 4 HI and then shifting in to 2HI is the best way to get a good launch. Does this work well for you guys in your Chevys? And is it safe on our transfercase? Also what rpm are you guys launching at? Currently I am a Bone stock 5.3.......for now.

Mine has the manual shifter on the floor so I'm not sure I would try that. If I were to run mine I would probably just run 2 h since it barely spins the tires as it is.

Hey mark where ya at in T town. I live by TU

And I live down in BA. You been to the track north of Tulsa on 169? is it done yet? how much better? I haven't been there since the last time I ran my truck.....long time ago.

Well I was talking about the electronic switch on the 4x4, I deffinitly wouldn't do it on a manuel. I guess I was mainly wanting to know if its safe in the Chevy to Launch in 4hi then shift back to 2hi as soon as i go into 2nd gear. I know thats what the Dodge guys are doing.

I'm at 71 & Yale for now. Hoping to get some land SE of BA soon.

No I havn't been to the track on 169 yet. But I do know it is all finshed. But it maybe closed for the winter now.

I've done all my racing at the famous Famosa Raceway in Cali. I use to live in Bakersfield, which is just south of it.

Why not just put it into AUTO and let the transfer case sort it out - it will engage the 4H when you launche and drop back to 2H by the time youre are at 60" - I think you will loose on forcing the switch - my $.02

It doesn't hurt the T-cases at all. I run the entire 1/4 in 4WD. My truck is 8000+. The T-case wont shift back into 2WD untill a certain amount of pressure lets off from the engine. I have run at 11.49 at 118+ and it didn't hurt it. Your tie rods will need to be beefed up though so you don't fold them under big launch pressure. I have the fix.

You are dreaming on this, That Tcase was never designed for such use and it will fail one day the only question is when and how. (least not forget strain on front end too)Tcases that where had differentails in them like the NP203 and Borg Warner Quadratrac. Not your modern lighter built units. Myself I would never run my truck that way a I plan to keep it for 10 or 15 years and I have never lost a Tcase in 30 plus years of owning 4x4's

You may have but it is not designed for it and it is not good for it either not to mention drag racing is way outside its design. Now use a NP203 or Quadratrac which is designed for it and it is a different matter as they will also prevent diveline bind up on hard pavement from differences in front a rear axle rolling radius that at always present. This "wrap up" or bind would get severe drag racing and create loads that will shorten the life of the involved components the only question is how much and when they will fail from it.
