I have the chance to get a yr old fiberglass topper for my truck for $50, the only problem is that is maroon, and my truck is pewter.

How easy is it to paint this black? directions.

how much would you expect to cost if I had an auto place paint it for me.

Thanks...

Easy to paint just like a Fiberglass boat is. Still needs to be prepared by sanding first and maybe prime it also. Any body shop can do it for you. After all a lot of parts are plastic or fiberglass on cars and trucks. Good luck.

I think the local body shop quoted me around $200 to have one painted.

He was going to do a computer color match to my truck.

I would start with a 400 wet to scuff the finish. a little trick I used to use was a Green Scotch-Brite and comet dry cleanser. Dump a bunch on the scotch-Brite use a little water and scrub away. you want to make sure that all of the shine is gone. After the cleanser treatment, rince well and let dry. tape very carefully around anything you do not want painted. You will not be able to paint with Krylon, it will have to be real paint. spray primer and let dry, after dry, wet sand until smooth again with 400. After the second sand, you can spray the base coat to match your truck. make sure you have acquate coverage, let dry for about 15 minutes or so and spray the clear. This is the basic stuff, there is more detail but I can answer specific questions if you have them.
