non-BOSE multi disc player into an '05 W/T ?

Hello everyone-

I just joined the forum, and just got a new , '05 Sierra 1500 W/T 4x4. Buying this truck was the best thing that ever happened to my Dodge Ram!!!

Anyway, the dealership gave me a list of P/N's of decks that would work in my truck. I found, and bought a 6 disc unit from eBay.( P/N 10357886) The dealer is now telling me that it won't work because the headunit is passive, so it needs the amp to work. I had a high end stereo shop look at the deck today, and they told me that only the units that have "BOSE" printed on the face are passive.

I took everything home, removed the am/fm deck, and performed the "quick theftlock bypass" procedure, and the deck worked, but it wasn't vey loud.

my questions are: would the corrosponding amp for the deck give me some volume, and how would I tie everything together?

Also, my owners manual shows a mulit disc player, but the illustration and instructions don't have the same buttons that my new deck have. There is a button on the bottom of the deck that says "trac" and when I first fired up the deck, I had all of the preprogrammed EQ settings to choose from, then the only ones I had were "custom" or "talk".

sorry for the lengthy, first post. Any help anyone can give is greatly appreciated.

If there is an XM option for your truck (with this radio), and I believe there is. It should work. Regardless of the amp connection. This device connects to a shorting plug (SP250) on top of your glove box, under the dash top. (You don't have to necessarily connect it there). The class II data, dash illumination and power connects remain.

JP customs' sells this and claims operation with present 6-cd units as well as others.

Maybe you could ask him about compatability of HIS kit with your base-level radio.

The CDX P/N you have, I can't confirm as to the year model compatability, as I don't have the list available (if it's on it). A 2002 & earlier won't work in your truck.

You need a harness for it too, if you don't already have one.

I am not sure if this will help but....I ordered an 03 reg cab with every option and ofcourse being a reg cab the 6 disc was not an option. I bought one of eBay from a hummer, and installed it. My local dealer tried to get it to work and we had it fired up but it locked. He said he would have to do a bunch of things to write to the tcm..(not BCM) to make it work and it would be difficult....anyways went to another local dealer and they said it couldnt be done....

Fast forward a few weeks, I went to a dealer in LA when I was visiting family down there and went to a dealer while I had some other warranty stuff done. They charged me a $100 but finally got it to work, and perfectly, steering wheel controls and all. After it came out my brother (who worked at a dealership) started talking to the tech who was really cool, he pulled us aside and said he spent a lot of time going thru different setups with the tech 2 until he found the right one that made it work, some were to quiet, some didn't have all the functions working...anyways he gave me his home number and said he would do any tech 2 related stuff on the side for me cheap if I needed it!

So a year later it still works great...I think I must have been one of the first to try and put the six disc in the regular cab truck because when I posted about it on all the forums I got no responses, I also picked up the radio really cheap on eBay...

Now I have been drooling over these NAV radios...especially the new touch screen....I have read the long thread here but don't undertsand if I can just use a non-lux head unit or do I have to buy all the bose crap? I really dont want to...and with a regular cab my space is limited!!! Anyone know if I can do this...as stated above I have acess to a GM guy with a tech 2. :chevy

EDIT: Hey Sperry you seem to have a good grasp on this, any way you think I can do an 05 NAV unit without all the other Bose stuff....I would like to maybe try and do it this Christmas as I will be down in the LA/Orange county area!! THANKS!!!

There is a nav unit available that will work without having the Bose system. the part number is 10351123. If you buy it new it will not have to be programmed with a Tech II.

So far there is not a new TNR (touchscreen) Nav unit available for the non-Bose setup.

JP Customs is working on making a setup that will allow you to install the Luxury Bose system in the 03 and later GM truck platform. It will be early 05 till it is done and available.

well, here's the update. I went back to the "stealership" today to get them to "unlock" the deck. The service manager tried manually, from the face of the deck, but no luck. (apparently- pressing the hour and minute buttons at the same time will unlock it, then pressing the minute button again will reset everything)

He then tried to access the ECU with the scan tool, but it was completely locked out.He then told me he would have to get GM Tech support involved, to get a generic code. The manager called me about 2 hours later and asked me to bring them the truck back. GM's Tech Support e-mailed them a code that the service manager used to re-flash the "VCI" in my truck (I don't know what that stands for). It basically fools the main ECU into thinking there's a different deck in the truck than what is actually in there.

All I know is, the d**n thing works now, and it sounds great, even w/o the Bose amp. They charged me $60 for doing it, but in all honesty, the service manager probably tried for 1 1/2 hours to get it to work before calling the GM Engineers to ask for help. I'm happy with it. It sounds good, it looks good, it fits like it should, and there's no other Work Truck model around with one in it.
