Firewall, where to pass wires through?

Recommended Posts

I'm going to be installing a system in my 99 sierra 2500 4X4 and wonder where the best place to pass a wire (4ga) through would be?

I would like to use an existing hole or gromet instead of drilling a hole.  Are there any good spots to pass wires through?

Thanks!

Matt,   Check underneath the master

in a existing hole (at least with plow

prep pkg) .  Maybe they all have one

not sure but worth a look........Geo

When I installed my bazzokas tubes in my 99 silverado Z71 I ran the power wire from the battery along the driverside fender to the firewall where I found a black rubber groument that I was able to go right thru.  It is located about 2/3 the way down the firewall from the hood line and about a foot from the drivers side (If I remember correctly?)  From there I fed the wire under the dash to the door sills where the door sill caps pop right off and have a wire tray built right in for running the wires to the back.  You will also note that the rear speaker wires runn in that wire tray if you are needing to tap into them.  This was the easist vehicle I've owned to do an install like this.

I hope this helps you.

There is a rubber grommit on the driver's side that's about 3" across, It takes two guys to run the wire.  But my suggestion is that if it's something that you want to turn on when you start the truck hard wire it in.  It's not as hard as it sounds and you don't have to run anything off the battery.  Underneath the dash there is the MEB (about 6" across and 6" tall) held on by a plastic nut.  Take off the cover and it will have a bunch of plug in spots.  The C-4 area is power and you just need a connector (can't think of technical term but you can get them at any auto parts store, radio shack, hardware store, etc...)  Just plug it in there for power and you should be able to find a ground in the truck as well.  It's that easy.  I've got my CB running off of it so I can't forget to turn it off since it will shut off w/ the truck.

The grommit is to the right of where the wire loom is running into the cab (driver's side)

MBEC under the dash on the driver's side, remove the plastic nut (turns about a hundred times) and then unsnap the cover.  It will line up the wire diagram I posted earlier.

Thanks for the tip on hooking up the CB, that is my next project.  Where did you install the unit and antenna?

Do you have pics of it?
