Heated Mirrors?

Anything simple I can check as a cause to why they don't work? The idea of heated mirrors is to be able to keep the frost and ice off of them to see behin you, right? The only thing I notice is that the passenger side mirror glass has a light crack in it, would that be the cause? Shouldn't the driver side one still work?

The only thing you can check is that there is voltage at the connector to the mirror defrost circuit.

If you have good power there, the mirror glass has to be replaced.

I had one replaced under warranty and if I remember right the mirror is 500 dollors alone.

$500 soundslike the entire mirror assembly You only need the glass replaced.

What style mirror? Power Extend or the break-away/powerfold?

If your rear window defrost works, your mirrors should to. If the heating element in the mirror is damaged, it will blow the fuse and both will not work. The two are linked in the wiring (at least on my truck). A mirror heater is just a fancy resistor with tape on both sides to adhear to the glass and the glass case.

A crack in the glass will not cause a failure in the heating, unless the element is

damaged, which is very hard to do. Glass w/ heater and depending on which style should not cost $500, if it is someone is making too much money on markups.
