K&N FIPK differences between the

They make polish metal tubed version and plastic tube version that will fit my truck. Is one better than the other performance wise? They are about the same in price.

I'm sure there are two camps on this one. One is going to say the metal will conduct heat to the air more than plastic would, causing less than efficient air density, and the second will say the metal will flow better, because it's smoother than the plastic.

After looking at it, I think it makes zero difference between the two as far as performance goes, even though both are true. The only thing left is the BLING factor.

Personally I have the plastic :jester:

The black plastic one is the regular FIPK kit. The Metal one is the series 77 model. The big difference is that the series 77 is NOT carb approved. (I can't remember why, but i think it doesn't retain some emmission equipment). I went through this a couple months ago, and because of this difference, I went with the black regular one. When I hooked it up to my 5.3, I deffinately noticed it. for that truck, they claim 9 hp peak increase (somewhere around 5200rpm). You will definately hear it. Very load compared to stock airbox.
