New Truck! 2002 Silverado Z-71

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a pre-owned 2002 Gray Chevy Silverado Ext. Cab Z-71

I was thinking about doing a few modifications. here is a list of what I am hoping to do. If anybody can think of anything else. I would't mind suggestions.

- Tighten torsion bars

- Goodyear M/T 33"/11.50/16

- UWS tool box

- 15% tint in the front

- Flowmaster muffler with dual tips

Thats all the money I have for right now.

How bad does tightening the torsion bars affect your ride quality? and do I need a professional to do it or can somebody talk me through it?

any info is appreciated

How interesting. That is pretty much my truck. Torsion bars everyone has a differenet opinion on. I tightened mine almost all the way and think it still rides nice. Everyone that rides with me thinks the truck rides really well. They are very easy to adjust. Lift the front end off the ground and thighten the adjusters. If you turn them more than 3 turns or so you should probably go get an alignment.

I put my flowmaster 50 series on a couple months ago and love it. I have always loved Flowmaster sound. The guy tried to get me to put a Magnaflow on there but I just didn't like the way it sounded. It sounds good in the city and is pretty quiet on the highway.

I also put a 3" body lift on mine about a month ago. I found after putting 285/75/16 Nitto Terra Grapplers on 16X8 rims with 4" offset that they still rubbed pretty good and would have been worthless offroad.

Hope this helps.

I had a set of Nittos (same size as yours) on my 02's stock rims, and they were fine.

Then, I went and bought another set of Nittos (yeah, I like them) with a set of wheels...

You're right on about the rubbing. With the offset of the new rims, the same 285/75/r16 Nittos rub pretty badly. Even after I trimmed a little.

I'm going to do a little more trimming, and if that doesn't work...BODY LIFT!

As for the torsion bars, do a couple of searches on this site, and you'll find more info than you thought you wanted.

I went ahead and tightened the torsion bars and got about a 1 3/4 inch lift in the front. I need to get my tires re-aligned though because the are "pigeon toed" for lack of a better word. It won't harm anything except maybe wear the outside edges of my tires down. The ride is fine though I can't tell a difference. I also tinted my windows 15%. I will try to get some pics ups

yeah it looks like we do have about the same truck. I don't have the chrome fender flares though and I have stock wheels and tires as of now.

NO CASH FLOW!!
