03 Denali HVAC problem

Got a problem with the drivers side temp control on my 03 Denali. The mix door is set to full heat (scan value of 31) and will not move when the temp on the head controller is modulated. The scan tool can see the desired position and actual settings but it isn't moving the door. It sets a error code of B0408 "Temp Control 1 Circuit Malfunction" Can anyone tell me if this is a motor failure issue or a head controller issue? The passenger side and rear zone work as they should...

Thanks

90% of the time the problem with the desired/indicated position codes will be a fault with the servo motor that positions the door.

The only way to check is to remove the connector and see what the values do, make sure you have good ground and power at the servo, and also remove the servo, and see if it moves with no door attached to it, and if the values indicate properly.

My guess is you have a dead motor, and replacement should take care of it. If it still under warranty, let the dealer do it, that way if anything gets broken during removal or reinstallation, it's on thier dime.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I will pull the servo motor and see of the door is stuck or not. Is there an index position that I have to be concerned with or is this a one position fits application

Just a followup post for anyone that might need this...

The B0408 code doe's indicate an actuator failure. I saved $70 by ordering the part (GMC part # 89018365) from GMPartsDirect.com on the web. You have to wait 10 days to get the part, but it was worth the savings for me. The Drivers side is accessible from the passenger side by removing the lower cover. I'm not sure that you could replace the passenger side actuator which is located on the top side without removing the dash. You may be able to get at it though the glove compartment opening if you had the correct small tools.

Thanks to GMCTech for the information. I appreciated it since this was my maiden voyage tearing into the new truck.

Under warranty, it pays roughly 0.4 hrs labor to replace the left actuator and 2.4 hrs to replace the right, so you know the right is hard to get to.

    • Two women are chatting in an office. Woman 1: "I had sex last night, did you?" Woman 2: "Yes." Woman 1: "Was it good?" Woman 2: "No, it was a disaster... my husband came home, ate his dinner in three minutes, got on top of me, finished having sex in five minutes, rolled over and fell asleep in two minutes. How was yours?" Woman 1: "Oh it was amazing! My husband came home and took me out to a romantic dinner. After dinner we walked for an hour. When we came home he lit the candles around the house and we had an hour of foreplay. We then had an hour long session of fantastic sex and afterwards talked for an hour. It was like a fairytale!" At the same time, their husbands are talking at work. Husband 1: "You wanted sex last night, how was it?" Husband 2: "Great. I came home, dinner was on the table, I ate, had sex with my wife and fell asleep. It was great! What about you?" Husband 1: "It was horrible. I came home, there's no dinner because they cut the electricity because I hadn't paid the bill; so I had to take my wife out to dinner which was so expensive that I didn't have money left for a cab. We had to walk home which took an hour - and when we got home I remembered there was no electricity so I had to light candles all over the house! I was so angry that I couldn't get it up for an hour and then I couldn't climax for another hour. After I finally did, I was so aggravated that I couldn't fall asleep and my wife was jabbering away for another hour!"🥰🤣🤣🤣
    • Thank you. Any advice or comments on my concerns of doing the engine swap?  Dealership is doing it so feel semi ok.    or any issues with the remand for this year having the parts that are causing the current recall ?
    • The Avalanche leaked, glued it shut. The Genesis was never used one day a grand kid hit the button it went crooked. Got it back in place. I put tape across the buttons. There’re about as useless as in dash navigation.
    • This is a really late reply but I just found this thread. They won't sell the hinges. I've gone 7 rounds with them. Their solution is to buy a new cover. I'm about to buy a new cover and it won't be a Bakflip. It also won't be from realtruck.com.
