adjusting Tbars..how to

I am wanting to raise the front end and do it the cheapest way so, I am going to crank the ol T-bars up. What do I need to do this??Do you jack the truck up first??? Do I need to get a gear puller and release the tension??? What has everyone else done when doing this???

I too am wanting to do something to raise the front end. What kind of problems is cranking the torsion bars gonna create? Will this make the truck ride like a skateboard or what? Does it put stress on other parts that would create premature failure or wear?

What about the spacers for the springs, is this a better way to go and are they available for my 04 2500LD 4x4?

Thanks

A 18mm socket and air rachet (or hand rachet) is all that is needed. You don't have springs in the front, they are torsion bars. You just crank the adjuster bolt on the tosion bar key in (clockwise) to raise the front or out to lower it.

The ride will get a little stiffer the more you crank it.

If you raise just the front don't you have to do something with the back as well??

Only if you want too, I think Roostman and bac078 just wanted to level the truck out, witch means they only needs to raise the front about 2" or about 5-6 full turns on the adjuster bolt

If you don't go overboard, about the only issue you will create is an alignment issue. Watch for accelerated, uneven tire wear. Better yet, get it set where you want without going too much and get it aligned afterwards. Be sure to tell whoever is aligning it not to adjust the "Z" height or trim height back to specs or it'll probably negate the lifting you just completed.

hey all. im new to this site but not to forums or trucks in general. i have a highly modified explorer.

just got an 05 silverado and looking for future lift options. this wont be a wheeled rig, more like a tow truck. but im wondering how much lift you can get out of the t-bars before causing issues like accelerated CV wear? I know with my explorer as long as you stayed under 2" it was OK... not sure about the silverado front end though...

I've read a couple of post where members have used "Ford" keys what exactly are "Ford" keys and how are they used?

Ford keys or "green Keys" replace the stock keys and have a different offset to the arm in relation to the hex key hole, allowing for much more ajustment.

A green key installed with the bolt backed out to the minimum will be comparable to a stock key cranked to the max, and the ride will be better.
