Wider but not taller.

Right now I have 285/75R16 on my stock '97 Z71. I have the 3.42 rear end. When I switched from the stock 265's, I noticed a big difference in power or lack of. When cruising down the interstate, my trans. shifts down a lot more to climb hills and the MPG went down to about 14. My question is, is there a size tire that would have the width of the 285 but not the height? I personally like having the wider footprint but sure would like to have my power and MPG back. Any opinions welcome. Thanks.

The size of a tire is determined like this. example tire 285 75 16 means the tire is 285mm wide. the sidewall is 75% of the width and a 16" rim. To stay with that width you have to stay with 285's but you can change the side wall hieght with the sidwall ratio. 70's would be 5% shorter 60 series 15% Hope this helps.
