Dodge SRT-10

Has anyone seen one of these things yet? I was on my way to school when I noticed a really nastly lookin' crew cab on one of those display stands. I decided I hadda pull in and check it out..sure enough. SRT-10 Crew. They are automatic trannys with the 8.3L Viper motor....nuts.

I like how it looks, but I think it kinda kills the "limited edition" factor behind them.

automatic? Behind a Viper engine? Thats just terrible. That is one nasty, nasty truck. I wish Chevy would start sticking the 8.1L in the SS instead of the 6.0L. Stick the 6 speed trany behind it and give it 525/525 and put chevy back in the muscle truck business.

Yea...Automatics. I think the trend for that had to do with driving a 6-speed transmission in something that large. Not sure how many people that are intrested in a crew cab would be interested in the manual transmission.

As for the Silverado SS. If it were up to me the Silverado SS would be the new LS7 7.4L motor and a 6-speed tranny. It would be one color. Black. 2005 454SS anyone?

Are you absolutly positive it was an SRT10. Because they can make a regular Hemi, with all the spoilers and stuff from a SRT10, strait from the factory.

I also thought that they Quad Cab SRT10 wasn't comeing out yet....

And I am 99.9% sure that they all come with the same Viper 6 speed. Because they would not put a 4 speed auto behind that motor.

You can go on Dodge's website to see the new SRT-10. I saw one at the Auto Show in LA. It's pretty cool looking. Why can't GM do something like that? It's because they're afraid it'll eat into their Corvette sales. Who wouldn't want a vehicle that has 500 hp, has a comfortable back seat (crew cab), can haul dirty stuff, and can tow? And it would probably cost less. Eventhough Corvette owners and truck owners are two completly different clientele (sp), I don't think any Vette sales would be lost. If they offered the truck as a 3/4 ton or had a weight rating over 8600 GVW it wouldn't eat into the CAFE averages.

Yep I was all wrong on that one. My bad.

But man that thing comes with 4.56 in the back. That would litterally snap your head off.

Ive always said bigger is better, or was that my girl friend that said that?

Either way,......... 8.1L + 1/2ton shortbed + Super/turbocharger + 6 speed + all factory stock = happy GM customers.

The SRT10 means it has a V-10, so there is no possible way it could be a Hemi. :wtf:

I know that, what I said was that you can order a regular truck with the SRT10 bodykit, minus the SRT10 badge.

But rumor is that they are makeing an SRT8, which would be a super charged Hemi. And from the Dodge forums, the guys that have put on a KenBell, have reached 500hp. But I'm sure Dodge wouldn't put that much extra HP in a 1500 body.

Who would want a stick in a P/U? Just offer a console shifter with a manumatic setup like in the BMW's, Mercedes and Audi's? Maybe I'm getting old (41), but shifting all the time sucks.

500hp through a stock dodge transmission  :wtf:

The 48RE is not a stock tranny. Thats what they put behind the Cummins.

It is way better than the 46RE and the 47RE, I think thats what they were called.

The 48RE has been bullet proof, I mean it has its probs, everyone once in a while, but it has been great for the HD's

And the and the 485re, which is the 5 speed auto they put in the 1500, dakota and durango, has been one of the highest rated transmissoin since it came out in the early 2000? But the Ram didn't get it till the NBS came out in 03. And I don't remember where I read that, I belive it was Car and Driver, or maybe Consumer Reports. I just remember I was sitting in the DR. office, when I read it.

But Dodge did have the worse trannies in the world, if they didn't take care of them.
