5W-30/Lucas Or 10W-30 Lucas

Its getting that time again where i need to change my oil again. Now since ive got my tahoe ive ran 5-30 Castrol High Milage with no Lucas oil stabilizer in the winter and 10-30 Castrol High Milage with lucas oil stabilizer in the summer. I use 10-30 and lucas in the summer time because it gets around 80-90 degrees every day here in the summer time. Should i just run 5W-30 and lucas oil stabilizer this summer or should i continue to put 10-30 and stabilizer in it. Thanks

I think it would be best to run 10/30 in the summer at those temps. Switch to Mobil 1 while your at it.

I was thinking about switching to mobile 1...but my engine has 95K on it and i heard that it was bad to switch from dino to syn in an engine that has high miles.

My opinion? I use 5-30 year round no matter how hot or cold it gets and I would NEVER use an oil additive of any kind.

What would i have to do to convert over to mobile 1 5W-30 Syn, dont you have to flush the engine since syn and dino dont mix? I really dont wanna mess up my 350 by mixing oils.

You need to drain out the old oil and pour in the Mobil 1. There is no need to flush anything. The synthetic and dino oil are COMPLETLY compatable. You can mix dino and synthetic to your hearts content.

 

If you don't have any leaks now,the synthetic won't cause any. The reports of synthetic causing leaks is from people that had a leaky engine and the dino oil gummed up the leak and it stopped. They add synthetic and the superior cleaning properties of synthetic clean out the gunk and sludge,and the engine starts to leak.

Oh yea,if you are running the right oil,you don't need to add anything to help the oil out. The oil companies add what the oil needs at the refinery.

Mighty HD shows a great site to go to. There is a ton of info on there. Also like others have said, run a good quality oil and you don't have to worry about additives. If you go by what your owners manual suggests you can't go wrong.

5w-30 Mobil 1 year round will work just fine. I have run the Series 2000 AMSOIL 0w-30 for the first two years in my truck. Just now switched over to the Series 3000 5w-30 to see how it works out on my oil analysis's. No problems with either and so far the oil samples have come back great.

How cold does it get in Oklahoma? Unless you see temps down around 0 on a consistent basis,I don't see the need for 5-30. The pour point on M1 5-30 is about -50 degrees. The pour point of the 10-30 is about -45 degrees. Not much difference.

 

If it were me I'd run 10-30 year round.

Coldest it gets here in the winter is about 10 degrees and thats only about once or twice during the winter, usually it stays in the 30s in the winter and warms up to 80-90 sometimes 100 in the summer.
