what are some good cat-back systems out there? i have a 4.8 1500. i was considering borla but how come they dont have have any info on the diameter of the pipes listed on their site? my second choice would be magnaflows. is there an advantage of having duel outlet instead of a single outlet? i want something thats pretty simple, not too loud, not too expensive and throaty with some performance gains. thanks alot.

I went with the borla cat-back single in/double out, same side side exhaust behind the pass rear wheel. I believe it is 3" in and 2.25 or 2.5 out but this from memory.

I'm very happy with it. I feel I lost a tad of low end but picked up much more everywhere else. Had a LITTLE resonance in cab at highway speeds but I have a Tahoe which is a resonance box. A little soundproofing in the interior took care of it. Love the look of the tips and LOVE the sound. Can be quiet but sound great when you romp on it. It went in without a hitch ans has not required any adjustments in 4 years and 110K. Still holding up well to the Midwest winter/salt.

i dont think a sound clip transferred online would give you a close rendition of how the exhaust truly sounds.....

gotta hear one in person to make a good decision.

i put a 3 chamber flowmaster on mine with dual 2.5" pipes and 3.5" tips straight out the back. I love the way it sounds and it's quiet in the cab- but i have the 5.3L..

I have a borla with dual side outlets. looks good, holds up well. Diameter is 3" into muffler and 2.25" (x2) out. Diameters set up well to move the gas fast. The performance combined with the effiecency is hard to beat. Sound is kinda quiet compared to Gibson or Flows. Had a 2-chamber Flowmaster before the Borla. Borla is much quieter and less raw.

Borla has sounds on their site now, but not model specific. Gibson and Flow's have sounds too.

are there any sound/performance differences between duel vs. single outlet?

The correct sizing is the main thing to watch out for. A single exhaust used to be looked down on as not-performance, but now, a properly sized single will perform just as good as a properly sized dual. A 3" single would work well: check out Gibson swept side systems. For duals, look for a 3" into the muffler and either 2.25" or 2.5" pipes out. Since yours is a 4.8, I would go for the 2.25". Not sure who else make that other than Borla. Remember that oversizing the exhaust will kill your bottom end.

As for sound, the duals have more presence on the driver's side (if standing outside of vehicle) The sound waves from a single would have to bounce to get over there and that diminishes intensity.

Out of curiosity, what ever happened to your lift choice?

ill probably go with the 7" cst system. im calling outlaw this week to get the price quotes for a lift/tires/rims/gears. borla has those Intercooled tips. do they make produce different sounds compared to the ones the cat0back systems come with?

i should be getting my lift next week. 7 cst system, bf allterrains, extreme alloys and 4.56 gears. is there a company that i should be looking into for gears or are they all the same?

My friends and I all have motive gears in trucks and drag cars. Very high quality gear, and no, all gears not made equal. Pretty much, you get what you pay for. Catastophic failure can happen to any gear if it is overpowered, but cheaper gears will usually pit sooner and run rougher.

Friend of mine had a bad experience with Richmond's. There a couple guys in here that swear by Yukon's, but I don't know anything about them.
