Poll - Why did you buy your Heavy Duty

Just curious why everyone went Heavy Duty rather than 1/2 ton.

I have a few reasons. I wanted a manual, and I couldn't get it with a 5.3 in the half ton. The price of the HD with a 6.0 liter and the manual was the same price as a z-71 similairly equipped. Liked the hieght difference between the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton.

 

I was an "other" vote BTW.

I bought mine for a few reason....

 

- It sits up high like a 4x4 should (I always hated how low my 1/2 ton sits)

- Brakes are MUCH better than on my 1/2-ton with JB5 junk drum design

- Its a Heavy Duty and anything I use it for will not even be straining it

I own a nice travel trailer, but my previous tow vehicle could not make the trips to the NASCAR races, so, get the HD and don't worry. Should have gotten the 8.1 or Duramax, but I only drive 10 miles to work one way, and my buddy has had two engines in his 01 HD 8.1L before getting the Duramax this year.

 

I am happy with what I have.....lets go racing!!!

I wanted a crew cab and for the 6.0 it was the same price as the new 5.3 z71 crew.

Don't like 1/2 tons they brake too easily. It was the right truck at the right price at the right time. I wasn't even looking for a truck like this. I was looking for some thing I could run in a rally race 4X4 truck class. I ran the first race they had in a 1 ton dually flatbed with a powerpoke on a 130hp chip and was 2nd fastest in my class. I was looking for a 96-98 2500 350cid a great truck for this kind of racing but then I stumbled across this truck. Year old 12,000miles $20,000. Good thing to the guy that organized the first race moved to Oklahoma and they never had another race.

I bought mine thinking that the 3/4 ton suspension and drivetrain components should last me a long time compared to a 1/2T. I started out looking at 2500HDs and didn't look at anything else.

-Price differance between a 2500 LT crew and a 1500 LT z-71 was $1000 more for the crew, but you get an extra $1000 rebate for taking the crew...so when it boils down I got a 6.0L, 4 doors, and HD suspension for the same price as a 1500 z-71 ex-cab with a 5.3.

 

-I was not a fan of the front end change over. The hieght to width ratio of the front ends on the 1/2 tons make them look terrible especially with those ugly 16's. At least the 2500 is higher and the front end looks better as it gets higher up in the air.
