05 with 4:10's = 04 with 3:73's????

I've had my 05 4.10s on 2 200 mile round trips averaging 70mph and got 17.2 mpg on both.

04 Crew Cab 4x4, 3.73, P265/70R17 just took a 252 mile trip with an average speed of 71.4 mph and average mpg of 17.4. ( just realized made up of the same numbers cool) I don't have the DIC that tells me this I just keep track. Get better milage during the summer, around 19.

I believe they were an option. Most '04's I see with them are Z-71's, and most '04 Z-71's I've seen had the 16" wheels on them. (My 04 has the 17's though)

I think they were and option except for the crew cabs were I think they were standard. 4x4 Crew Cabs and Z-71 Crew Cabs that is.

I never get mileage like that! (6.0 3.73 4x4) maybe your bed cover makes a difference! Or maybe I never average 70mph(now that is possible)

 

If 4.10's are standard, I never found even 1 '05 truck in my search a month ago. Not one 1500crew z71 or 1500hd 4x4 my dealer found, had a 4.10 gear. Matter of fact (this has been beaten to death) that was a major factor in my NOT buying a 1500crew .

As far as gearing, why would a different wheel size matter? Most come with 265/75/16's (Z71's). All that matters is the outside diameter of the tire. So no, gearing is not the same for an '04 with 16 inch wheels with 3.73's as an '05 with 17 inch wheels and 4.10's.

Even though the newer trucks come with 17s as opposed to the older ones with 16s, the outside diameter of the tire/rim combo is the same, making the gears 3.73s or 4.10s. The older Z71s had 265/75/16s, and the newer ones have 265/70/17, so the tire height is the same. So the gears are the same.

I think the reason I didnt "get it" from your

response was I didnt see the difference in the

tire size(which you did try to tell me). It just

jumped at me when I saw the new and the

old sizes next to each other.
