It was a real neat idea... but its really not worth the money unless you live in the city and have to parallel park a lot, IMO. Might have gotten it on my next truck, if the price was right and I felt like it would be helpful (e.g. a lot of driving in tight city areas, which I don't do much of at all right now).

On edit: There was one time when it would have been sweet to have.. in this real tight parking garage.. even I was surprised I got into a space in that thing without hitting anything! (Except for the garage wall with my grille gaurd =)

I've seen exactly ONE in our service department. Not surprised they're dropping it.

But it is really cool. Pulling into a stall in a tight shop is a breeze! No jockying around, just turn and pull straight onto the lift.

GM is screwing up. Their marketing is stupid :ughdance:

If they offered the Q-steer on the trucks that needed it - longbed configurations and with the D-max engine, they'd have the market cornered. It should have been offered across the board on the full size truck line. Just think of the people that have 5th wheels, travel trailers, and toy haulers. GM's really missing the boat on this one.

I agree 100%! When I was looking for a 2500 Burban, I was really hoping to find one with Q-Steer.

They should have made it available thru out the line up AND started at a reasonalble price out of the gate.

They also should have pushed the Pro-Tech (I think that is what it was called) bed!

Many times, coroperate thinking lacks common sense! :ughdance::ughdance:

4 wheel steering has been a failure over an over in the automotive industry. Back in the late 80’s Pontiac offered it on the STE6000 models and it failed. Subaru offered it in the early 90’s resulting in another failure. Several other manufacturers have tired it without success as well.

In the case of the Silverado and Sierra, Delphi is blaming GM on poor advertising and product awareness. GM is blaming Delphi on the failure due to high component cost ($7000 premium) and low profit margins resulting in low sales. Plus GVW rating limitations of the axle inhibited by the light duty semi-floating axle design keep it out of the crew cab long bed market which didn’t help much either.

We all know GM….if they cannot build a gazillion copies of something they will drop it like a hot rock. That is just the way the auto industry works.

Good bye 4WS and the ugly bed on the equipped trucks that goes along with it. If your are into to collecting oddballs, you better buy one of these trucks OR Suburbans as they are even more rare.

Me, I could careless. I personally think 4 wheel steering along with electronic shift transfercases are gimmicky and nothing more than a warranty liability that will end up costing the end user hand over fist over the ownership period.

What do you mean by "ugly bed" I didn't know the bed was different.

Yes, Mark the bed slabs are different on Quadra steer trucks. Not very attractive in my opinion but I am sure the 2731 owner’s to date of Quadra steer trucks may argue that point. Suburban’s actually have wider fender flares with clearance lights on Quadra steer trucks equipped rigs.

I agree that the trucks were not marketed properly and looked ugly. Why did the axle have to be so wide. If it was kept to the normal axle width, I think alot more people would have went for it. The wide axle, wide box and marker lights are a lot of the reason why no one jumped on the bandwagon, IMO!!!

Great concept, bad implementation!

I could have swore that q-steer used a heavy duty (1-ton) axle. I am too lazy to go look it up, but I am remembering from a 4Wheel & Off-road article a couple years back when they tested one.

The tires stick out farther on them for clearance reasons with the tire and frame when the tires are turned hard. And ya, I would never buy them because of their mini-dually looking bulge on the bedside. GM has so many different bed configurations, how hard would it have been to make another where they pinched the frame rails in a little? Maybe then you wouldn't be able to lay a piece of plywood flat in the bed or something. I truely think for the 4 wheel steer to be popular the truck will have to look like a regular fleetside truck.

If gm were to put quad steer on the 1 ton truck they would have to get one heck of a rear axle. The u-joints and such decrease the strength of the axle, and with all the weight on the rear axle the probability of failure would be increased. The dana 60's that are in the front end of other trucks are ok because most of the trucks weight is carried on rear end. imo the dana 60 with the quad steer in a 1 ton wouldn't hold up in the long run.
