catalytic converter

I have a 00silverado5.3 and i was going to get headders on it.  Has anyone installed headders themselves?  And if so which headders are good to get for my truck?  And would i have to do and welding or cutting.  Also has anyone taken off their catalytic converter?  Did it do anything to your computer when you did?  I would apprectiate your input thanks.

My personal opinion I would leave the cats on the truck.  What type of cat back are you running?  There's several header makers and I haven't bought a set myself so I don't want to guess what ones are the easiest to bolt on.
