Console & Carpet Install

Recommended Posts

Alright, I finally got the pics scanned and up on my site for the console and carpet install.  Hopefully in two weeks I'll get some more pics of the console cut out area.  Since I took the pics I added some rubber edging to the cut area.  It gives it a great look.  Give the pics some look, what do you think???

Also, on my site www.mudcrazy.com I'm adding some technical install info, so Mervz, if you want some stuff to add to the install section check it out.

Good job!

Looking foreward to seeing how the floor shifter/console area came out.

I've got to get a good close up pic of it, because at the time I didn't have it completely finished up.  But, what I did was took a marker and drew on the front part of the console where to cut.  I used a coping saw and it cut fairly easily.  Just did that a few times until it was the right size.  Then I took a file and smoothed out the edges.  After that I took some steel wool on the cut surface just for a little more smoothness.  All in all it took about an hour.  And what you can't see in the pictures, because I did it the other day, was bought some black door edge guards and covered up the cut edge with it.  The black is about the same color as the carpet so it really blends well.  Everyone that's looked at it thought that it was supposed to come that way.  So, if anyone here has a floor mounted shifter don't rule out the idea of having a console in your truck.

I just got my CB and glass mount antenna Via UPS today.  I got a CB27 glass mount antenna (21") to replace my 5' whips (they looked too obtrusive) and I got a more compact CB to fit in the console.  I got a Cobra 19DX3 which essentially has all the same features as my other CB, just in a more compact version.  So hopefully if I can use a ruler correctly it should fit.  Also, this CB has a PA feature, hmmm, must I mount something outside to yell at people.  I'm going to either put the CB in the open slot where the Cd or tape player would normally go, or hide it in the CD storage.  I'll get some pics of the install on my site as well.  I'm thinking I'll do it this weekend and hard wire the CB to the battery.

I'd like to do something like that in my truck.  But it would probably be a bit harder.  I have a 5 spd stick shift.  I wand to get rid of that useless middle seat.  A full size person can't sit in that seat without being felt up unintentionally.  Anyone have any suggestions???

Thanks

Well it was one thing working around the 4x4 shifter, but a stick shift, I dunno.  The way you may want to go is to just add the rear part of the console.  It ends after cup holders and you can unscrew the part that extends into the dash.  Take a look at a pic of mine and see if you'll have enough clearance.

The console is graphite with the factory option DSS is part number

15050295 and the rear with the trim plate is part number 12475054.

This is the info I got from GMPartsdirect.com

If you're looking to get one from the junk yard your best bet is to go to www.car-part.com and do a search for front seats.  And then send out an email to about 20 different junkyards.  Hopefully you should get about 5 of them that have one.  The prices are usually about the same between all of them.  Gene's is one of the junkyards on the list so chances are I bought there only one.

Need more info, just ask.
