Tahoe Power Window Repairs

Recommended Posts

Posted

Something in my '01 Tahoe's driver's window operating mechanism let go when the window froze this winter. The motor runs, but the window does not go either up or down. There is a slight grinding noise when the motor runs, almost like abrasion on glass.

Any ideas what might be wrong and is it easily repairable?

I can't begin to see how to get the interior door trim off to take a look. :D

Window regulator. Unlike the "old days" when they were these huge steel arms and gears, they're now cables and not much else. These tend to break.

Can I fix it or does that need to be a dealer repair?

Can't answer that without knowing your mechanical ability. :D It's not difficult.

Fairly amount of backyard mechanical experience, not body related though.

Is there any involvement with glass alignment?

Once I get the interior upholstery panel off, is there reasonable access to get at things?

it's pretty simple repair, i've done it three times now. The only difficult part that i would caution on, is removal of the door panel. be careful, don't force anything... plastic breaks easy.

i would HIGHLY recommend this company Your Part Store on eBay

see if they have the exact one you need. it's probably the same as mine. i recommend them because pricing is low, quality is high, communication is excellent. I had one of mine break after install, they replaced it NO QUESTIONS asked!!!

I think dealer repair is $300 range, do it yourself $60-ish.

Dustin,

3 Times!!

You're not giving me a good feeling about the future of my Tahoe.

Thanks for the reply.

Overall it sounds like something I am going to try.

Can't make it any worse.

Thanks GM Tech.

My windows on 04 Yukon won't operate when freezing temps. Any solution, TSB etc?

Thats exactly when mine failed; froxen windows.

The underlying cause that I discovered is that the cables were rusty and failed.

Got it all apart as previously described by others; not difficult at all.
