lift suggestions please

Recommended Posts

my wife wants to lift her 04 quad cab sierra 5.3 1500. I am debating over which way to go- 3"bodylift or 6" suspension lift. I just need some help deciding which one. I know the bodylift will be alot cheaper but what about when it comes time to install the front and rear ranch hand bumpers i am looking at getting? I have an idea of which suspension lift to go with its gonna be RCD or the superlift knuckle kit, Any pros or cons to these kits that I should be aware of? I dont know who makes a bodykift kit for the sierra but I have a 3" performance accessories on my toyota and i have no complaints. are there any other companies that make bodylifts for the sierra? one last thing I am thinking of getting rid of the 17" stock rims and getting 16"s what size tires can i put with the suspension kit alone and what size with the bodylift alone? Oops where did you guys get your lift kits from and how much did you pay? I know this sounds like alot but i like to have all my ducks in a row. thanks

I have and am still researching lift options. While the body lift is a lot cheaper, I am going with a Susp. lift. Your grill guard will be an issue. You will have to custom fab mounting brackets for it if you go body lift. Another thing I personally don't care for with the body lift is the excessive amount of frame showing on the sides and some don't even address the huge air gap seen between the bed and frame thru the wheel well area.

My reason for choosing suspension is that is should perform better on and off road than stock and the look is more pleasing to me. I am considering RCD, Pro Comp and Skyjacker.

The lifts I mentioned are knuckle lifts and I am sure there are more like them, but other companies offer a spindle lift which will widen your front track a little bit.

There is a ton of information to gather and I have been talking with people on this and other forums who have lifts that I may be interested in and finding out the pros and cons from first hand users.

Either way you go, it is an investment in your truck and research will lead you to what satisfies YOUR personal taste.

Good Luck!

thanks alot for the reply yes the gap is a bit of an eye sore but a set of those black gap covers will work to cover it.

If you will be towing or hauling heavy, only go body lift, as a suspension lift will reduce the power delivered to the pavement.

Increased U-Joint angles also reduces the amount of force they will transmitt and reduce their life span.

The engineering of most suspension lift drop brackets that I've eyeballed do NOT have enough strength for hauling/towing heavy, IMHO.
