You pick the noise,problem! where are thoseTechs!

Well I'll have to take the truck into the shop tomorrow or the next day but see if one of you guys can pick this problem out. On the way home from work I get on the highway and around a mile or so into it I hear this noise.. sounds like if the exhaust was hitting the driveshaft. I know it's not but the weird part is I let off the gas and it goes away.. as soon as I touch the gas it makes the noise. Well the ride home is like 15 mins and it does it when I hit the gas but not coasting all the way home. I have to parrell park and when I go to reverse it was almost like it didn't want to go back. It studdered a second then backed up. Almost like if you were backing up into something. So.. I'm thinking maybe a broken rear brake pad? I sure hope it's not the rear! I'll cry! Or some other common problem? See who gets it right when I take it to the shop in the next day or so!

It's a 98 C1500 2 wheel drive. around 79K on it. I think the rear fluid was changed around 50ish K Not sure on how old the rear pads are. I did a few burn outs so I'm hoping a rear pad broke and is grinding around in the drum! Post away!

Sounds like you may have shelled the ring and/or pinion. I had this happen on a '92.

Check your u-joints first though, just in case it's easy...

I think you got it! I took it this morning and we took it out for a test drive. It was only in first and lock up would it make the sound. We went down a side street and he would snap the wheel left and right and it would go away so I'm thinking bearing back there somewhere. He's gonna take it apart later today/tomorrow morning and let me know. Hopefully it didn't mess the axel shaft up! I'll keep you guys posted!

Talk to the shop picking it up tomorrow.. it was a rear axel bearing! Go figure! He did rear brakes while he was there as well. Glad it was'nt something expensive! The rear fluid was due for a change anyways

False alarm! WTF! I go to pick it up and after doing the axel bearings that's not the problem! He's like it's still doing it! So he took put it on the lift and ran it checking for the sound. It will do it on the lift. It's comming out of the transmission! It's really weird. The trans shifts fine but in first, overdrive, and reverse this aweful sound like your driving around with your brake pads into the rotors! In 2nd and 3rd it's fine. But all the gears shift fine. So who the hell knows now! So that trip to the shop was around 500 said the back brakes were real low and did them while he was there. Turned the drums etc. So off to the trans shop in the morning. I can feel about a grand running out of my pocket real soon for some reason! I'll keep you posted but if this happend to anyone before let me know so I can clue these guys in!
