"too old" dmax mileage

I'm new to trucks. Just learning, online, so far. I want one to tow my first travel trailer, when I buy one later this spring.

I'd love a dmax/ally but I just don't think I can make the $$$ work for new, much less "good used". If that's not an oxymoron...

So here's my questions:

1. If I go back as far as 2002, looking at dmax online ads, how many miles is "too many"? For gassers, I've been using the rule of thumb of 15,000/year, but diesels can take heavier use. Could I get away with a 2002 with, say, 50,000 on it right now, as long as I could convince myself thru the usual inspections, reviewing maintnenance records, etc., that it had been taken care of? Or would I be smarter to stick with the rule of thumb and automatically ignore any 2002 with more than about 45,000 miles on it?

2. I think I recall seeing other messages to the effect that the injectors on some diesels in the 2002 time frame weren't as good as they are in newer model years. Is this an issue I should consider also? In other words, should I just rule out 2002 entirely, to be on the safe side?

Thx

Personally I perfer to buy used, only thing you get when you buy it off the showroom floor is a smell and depreciation as you sign the papers (who knows what abuse it took at the dealer even). If you can get a great deal then do your homework carfax is cheap insurance also check for thye normal stuff, I'd look at the truck to get a gut feeling.

The 2001-2002 Dmax's have a 100000 mile motor warranty just incase the injectors go.

My 2001 has 126000 miles never had a motor problem, the Allison has acted strange once or twice but no problems. I pull a 12000 # horse trailer almost every weekend. Personally the looks of the newer ones would keep me from giving up my 01. they have done a bit with the 05 thank gawd! I bought it used in 2002 with 10000 miles... seven months old and got a smokin deal.

Buy a used one, drive it a bit, listen to it, feel it, buy it and change all the fluids and filters...thats my 02

if it's a great deal that makes it all that much better......

Actually, GM sent out a letter to '01-'02 Duramax owners saying they would warranty the injectors for 200,000 miles because they are aware that some had problems.

at only 50K miles, the DMAX has just began to shine. Add that to the GM extended injector warranty + your pre-purchase inspection and you should feel confident about making a good purchase

Didn't see that letter..better check the file...the wife has a habit of putting vehicle info in there without telling me. Thanks for the heads up
