Fuel Filters

Hey everyone, I'm sure you've seen this post before. I have a 05 duramax and was inquiring how often to change the fuel filter? Anyone out there know what is recommended? I have about 6k miles on it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

About every 12K miles. When you change it, cut it open and see how bad the fuel is in your area.

All my friends that have a Duramax change theirs around 12-15,000 miles.

It makes no difference which brand fuel filter you buy for the Duramax, they are all made by Racor and just repackaged when sold as other brands. I've bought mine from Oilguard, an online store with the cheapest price I've found (you do have to buy in lots of 3 or 6). There is a new, double-pleated fuel filter design that's out and I would suggest getting those if you can. They do cost about 6-8 bucks more, but provide a better overall micron rating. I've gone to changing my filter every 10K. It's really easy to do yourself, takes about 15-20 minutes tops once you've done it a couple of times. It's cheap insurance for an expensive engine.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to find some instruction when it comes down to it. I've never done it but I was trying to get some info so when I do change it I atleast know what I am doing.

I change mine every 10k miles. Seen too many that looked real bad if they went further than that.

They now offer a new filter that is compatible with both the LB7's and LLY engines. Double-pleated filter. If you buy from the dealer, it'll have a black stripe..

so not to sound stupid their fellas but how ofter for us gasers out there??? i know i should prolly know this but i forget or jst was never told i think its much different for a gas engine though but could be wrong after all look and the question im asking lol

how big is the filter's on these? the one on my Bimmer is MASSIVE, more than twice the size of the one that is on the Silverado.

some Tech's recommend the bimmer's filter chnaged every 30K, but some people say it's so big it wouldn't hinder performance until 100K...I've been chmaging it around 15K, regardless

I'm not sure if/how the 05 differs from my 03 but it was not that bad to change it. I've read about people bending their AC line a little to get it out or removing the inner fender to get better access to it. I removed the passenger side battery to change mine. I had a little problem getting the WIF sensor wire off but I think the next time will be easier and could not find an oil filter wrench to fit the filter so used a big set of channel locks. Next time I do it I will get a wrench that fits it. When I changed it I also changed out that bleeder screw to a T-Valve that a guy on diesel place sells for $20. That made the job a lot cleaner as instead of diesel fuel running down the side of the motor etc, this directs it down a little hose which I ran into a little coffee can.

Next time I change it I'll have to check into those double pleated ones as they were not out when I did mine.

30,000 to 40,000 works for me and is just as clean if I changed it at 10,000.

I have a 100 gal tank in the bed I use for refueling and I change that every 2500 gallons also very clean. So save your money

Please don't take this the wrong way and I'm not flaming when I say this....

The above post is very bad advice, unless it's referring to a gas engine instead of a diesel.
