Should give you average speed right ?  So what kind of number would indicate that a truck has mostly highway miles as compaired to a city driven truck or one that just sits there and idles all day?  Am I way off bash or would this give you a basic  idea of how the truck was used.  I know there are a lot of variables but what do you think ?   My numbers are 619hrs and 30,000 kms (sorry I'm a Canadian EH ! ) this equals about 49kms hr but i do alot of highway miles so this number seems awful low to me. 49kms/hr = 30 mls/hr. :notice:

a high number like 50+mph would indicate alot of highway miles

Hour meter is running whenever your truck is, not just when you're driving, so it will not give you an accurate depiction of average speed, think of all the time you spend idileing, warming up the vehicle etc...Think of it this way and I'll exaggerate for effect:

I start my truck, let it idle for 2 hours, drive 1 mile at 100 miles an hour, my "average speed" by this method is .5 miles per hour when actually it is MUCH higher

I guess it is an accurate measurement if you think of it as average speed while vehicle is running...as in the example above it was travelling 0mph for 2 hours...*shrug*

It's not something I would consider an accurate indication as to how the vehicle was driven, like you said... too many variables...

Interesting.   I'm guessing the last guy to own the truck did alot of idling cause all the truck sees now is highway.

I have 747.9 hrs and 43182 miles.

This comes to an average speed of 57.73 mph.

I do most of my driving on the road to work. 31 miles each way.
