Ally actN funky

I've noticed over the last month or so that my 8.1/Ally seems to run warmer when in stop and go traffic. When going down the highway with no load, it seems to run at about 170-180. When in stop and go traffic it climbs to 190-200. I've flushed the transmission within the last 6 months.

I realize that this is nothing critical, i.e. well below the dnager zone, but am concerned that it is a sign of something wrong.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Mine runs around 190 all the time with no load, with a load going uphill it reaches 225-230 (second line past 200)

Are you taking engine temp or tranny temp?

Engine temp is suppose to run no less than about 195 once everything is warmed up. Tranny temp shouldn't be that high though unless your doing some heavy towing up a hill.

Granted I've only got about 1,000 miles on mine so far but my tranny needle hardly moves off the 100 mark in town and on the highway. Haven't towed anything yet.

My 99 2500 w/ 6.0 had the tranny guage and even when I was hauling 5 tons of hay it never got above 200. Granted this is comparing apples to oranges for tranny's but I would think the ally would do better than the 4L80E.

Kurt, that sounds about normal to me...you need airflow to keep the tranny temps down...cooler for it is mounted upfront and relies on air for cooling...I see nothing wrong with your temp readings.

Thanks all for the replies, yes I am speaking about tranny temp not engine temp. I don't recall it running quite this warm in the past, but perhaps laying off the boose has made me more alert to my surroundings!
