what kind of gas mileage should i be seeing in a 1992 5.0 L silverado. Im getting 11.5 in the city but on the highway im only getting 10 which is backwards. i have replaced the map sensor and rebuilt the throttle body in the carb

It really depends on how you drive the truck. I have a 5.0 and average 15.5 MPG. And mine is no where close to stock. not to mention I like to keep my foot planted in the throttle body.

I had a '92 Z-71 with the 5.7(350) 5 spd SCSB that got 13-15 city and 15-18 highway.

 

You should be getting a lot more than you are...

 

Check the Air Filter, Fuel Filter (yes, people say the mileage sucks when it's bad on some trucks), Plugs, and Inside the Distributor Cap (for crud on terminals).

Run a can of BG-44 Injector Cleaner through it.

Replace the Plug Wires if it's over 100K miles (and it oughta be...).

Check your tire pressure.

Check your Speedometer/Odometer with a GPS, it may be way off.

im running stock 15 inch tires and the rear was never touch has stock rear from factory

Have you checked the Oxygen sensor operation and the TP (throttle posisition) sensor too? If Oxy sensor is bad it can cause mixture to run rich also if base timing is off it can effect MPG too and finailly if fuel quality is poor and knock sensor is retarding spark a lot MPG will suffer too.
