Higher Capacity Oil Pans

Recommended Posts

Posted

I was looking thru a Summit Racing catalog and saw pans for older (pre-80) cars and even saw some for S-10 applications, but none for the 5.3.

Would it be worth it if you could find one? I also wondered how far do they project down? Would they be likely to be damaged by a stump or other off road object?

Thanks for replies and thoughts.

Personally, I think that they are of no use in street vehicles. They have  an application in racing due to the fact that if you have more oil, it takes longer for it to get hot and break down. In a street car(or truck), it will just take longer for your oil to heat up.

Some oval track pans have a "kickout" on the right side. The oil pickup is extended over to the side so that the motor doesn't oil starve in turns.
