Can I turn off the auto-dim feature?

Is it possible to install a switch so I can turn off the auto-dimming feature of the rearview and driver side mirrors?  My mom has a switch on hear mirror to override this "feature"  I haven't found a need for the feature yet.  I can see a car needing it (all of our truck lights blinding everyone :))  But, I'm tall and I haven't found a need for such a thing.  I have the tinted windows in the back, which makes it a pain to back up in the dark.  Does anyone make a non-tinted heated rear window for the Tahoe?  My dad suggested installing a video camera back there!  :)

I'm sure there is new non-tinted glass that can be installed.  Maybe the rear glass from a low trim level tahoe isn't dark tinted??? If not I bet the companies that install windshields have something for you...

Personally I like the darker tint, and yes it is hard to see to back up at night...  It's dbl hard for me because I have a cap on my truck that has dark tint too...

I'll betcha one of the switches from your moms car could be retrofitted to your Tahoe mirrors.

Maybe my mom won't mind missing that dimming switch.  :) Doubt it.  Shaners, what is a cap (besides something you put on you head)?

?!!!!!!! Yikes!!!  I guess its better than hitting someone, "but golly Andy."  That's something else in my way.  (even though its only when I'm backing up)  I have a heck of a time with checking entrance ramps for vehicles, the rearview mirror is constantly in my way.  I have to duck my head a good 5 inches to get a good view.  Shaners, how did you come upon that site?

I wish I had the self dimming outside rearview mirror. I do most of my driving at night and love the inside rear view mirror self dimming. It is blinding when someone comes up behind and the outside doesn`t dim. JMHO.

I was looking at my new Popular Mechanics magazine and there was an ad for the rear/aid video system.

A cap is also what some people refer to as a topper or a shell...

Shaners, is that the PM with the E-bomb?

No it's the next issue...  October 2001 and it has a picture of a highspeed Boeng jet on the cover.

That E-Bomb is a pretty scary thing isn't it???

Pacodiablo, do those lighter tinted base window have the de-icing feature?  I can't live without that.  Illinois sucks with snow melting and freezing and melting and freezing.......anyways.  I think that is just a feature I'll add if that window ever gets broken.
