PROGRAMER

Does anyone have results on programing a 8.1 allison. It sounds Like the programers are not as flexible with the allison, like they won't touch it (not that they should) or the gear ratio.

I'm thinking about doing it to maybe pick up some mileage and correct my 265's.

Any input on results or product brands would be helpful.

Thanks

I may be wrong and if someone knows for sure, feel free to correct me, but I read someplace that the Allison has its own PCM to control the transmission and this is where to compensate for different tire sizes. :banghead:

Westers!

Purchsed an 04 CC/8.1/Allison last March. Dealer installed 285's before I even saw the truck. Spedo was off because of tires (checked with GPS). Great truck with lots of power. Started off getting in the 8.7-9 MPG range in the city. Best of 11-12 highway.

Installed Volant intake and saw a very slight increase around town. Decided in October that a Westers was next.

The Westers corrected the spedo problem, but my MPG did not go up immediately. I'm told the Westers takes a while to adjust to my truck and driving style. I'm happy to report that my truck got over 10 MPG city on the last tank! Have not been able to get a good highway reading, but I will keep you all posted.

Spedo is dead on -- checked against the GPS. Oh, and by the way...the Westers makes the Big Block ROAR! I highly recommend Westers.

Do you know someone with a GPS? After I switched to 265s my speedo was closer than it was with the 245s. With the 265s I'm almost dead on at all speeds up to about 80mph.

It actually seems to be right on, I just assumed it to be off with oversize tires. I thought I heard someone say 285's will fit, is this true.

And is there noticable hp and torque gain since you can't adjust the tranny.

My bone-ass stock 05 is off nearly 3 miles per hour at 55 mph as compared against two radar guns. It's reading higher than I am actually going. I'll bet if I go to 265's it will be close to dead on.

The Westers Web page is confusing to me. do they have premanufacured programers that can be picked up from dealers or do they make them on order and only come frome them. Are these install yourself, maybe some more detail from someone with approprate knowledge and I would understand.

I also heard two different stories. The 8.1 come with stock 3.73's and that they come with 4.10's. Can someone settle this contraversy.

Thanks

Wester's sells reprogrammed PCMs. You fill out

an order form for what you want and send it to

Lyndon. He will send you a PCM and you have 30 days to send

him your old one back or pay the core charge and

keep it. You do install it yourself, easy to do. Remember

Wester's has a LIFETIME WARRANTY. If your computer

is not right, it will be made right. If you trade trucks, you

get a computer for your new truck, you just pay shipping.

If I can help you in any way e-mail me. [email protected]

The dealers will sometimes swap the 265 tires for the 245 tires on two trucks on the lot to make a sale. They just print out a new window sticker and no one knows. They figure the speedo is close enough for either tire size and don't bother to change it. Dealers will also swap trucks dealer to dealer, and they will sometimes swap the smaller tires on before the exchange. Came right from my friend that works at the local GM dealer.

Get a factory printout of what your truck came equipped with from the factory.

Your right, but DEWFPO is driving a 2500HD. There is only one factory size available, 245/75 R16. Unless something has changed. The only Heavy Duty pickup available with 265/75 R16's is the 3500 SRW.

What kind of performance gains can realistically be expected from the Wester's? I'm hoping for a little quicker pick up off the line with my 8.1/alli. Also, can the 97 mph governer be changed with the Wester's? Thanks for any info. Actually a web address would probably be the best thing so I don't bug you all with a bunch of dumb questions

Yes the 97 can be changed.

The Wester's can give up to 50 or more ponys

depends on what you ask for and what octane you

want to run. They have many tunes to pick from.

I have the 93 tune and YES you can tell the difference.
