i'll admit, im use to my old vette. darn thing stopped on a dime. driving my truck, my stopping distance judgement seems way off. i have almost rear-ending a couple cars. i have had my truck for 2 months now. i was considering new brake pads, maybe cross-drilled rotors, any advise?

It's a half ton truck with a lot longer wheelbase than your vette.  Trucks don't stop on a dime.  If you have ABS, don't pump 'em, just start braking sooner.  And if you think you're truck is bad, go test drive a Suburban.  Those things could use an anchor out the back doors!  ;)
