Hello,

Have heard about the recall on the GMC's for tailgates falling off, however, mine is stuck closed. I have a dirtbike an on occasion have had to slam it to shut, now it won't open. I can hear the mechanism moving inside and clicking on the left side off the gate (by the gate strap) but the gate won't drop. Any suggestions? Can I flip the mechanism with a screwdriver or is there an easier way.

Thanks,

jiim :fume:

I had a problem similar, about 5 years ago. I use to leave my tailgate down and one day I hit a really big bump and the tailgate slammed down pretty hard, when I got to my destination i closed it only to try and open it later and nothing. I could here it trying to unlock but it wouldn't.

Long story short I took the cover off and one of the connectors (whichi is plastic) was busted.

Went down to the Dealer asked if they had one, and were gracious enough just to give it to me. Installed it and it worked as advertised.

Hopefully it's that easy, best of luck!!

Take the handle off, there will be two rods one for each side. Pull on the rods with some vice grips and the latches should pop open. Use a good lubricant on the latches and give them a work out. That is if they are not broken but you should be able to tell that once you are behind the handle.
