budone Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 I have had my truck for nearly two months and I can not get used to the Crusie Control.. 1st, unless I place the truck into Tow/haul mode, when climbing a hill the tranny shifts (at least to me) too far. This one I am used to 2nd If heading down hill, the cruise control seem to lurch, not a nice steady decelleration to maintain speed. 3rd and the thing I can not get used to. Travelling down the highway, cruise is on, I come up onto a vehicle and there is a vehicle in the left lane coming up. Cruise is still set and I step onto the accelerator to change lanes and pass and the truck will slow down. I have never had any vehicle do that. Anyone notice this???? Thanks
Mark_in_Tulsa Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 So what your saying is, with the cruise set, and when you give it gas it actually slows down?
budone Posted May 8, 2005 Author Posted May 8, 2005 So what your saying is, with the cruise set, and when you give it gas it actually slows down? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly
jeffbf89 Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 Mine act just about like that. I agree it feels like it slows down when you slightly press the gas pedal with the cruise on, I don't know if it actually does but it does feel like it.
redvett Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 If you have throttle by wire you have to overide the cruise throttle opening. What you are doing is probably not pushing the throttle down far enough. When going down hill the cruise is controled by the PCM and locks & unlocks the converter to control speed. That is what you feel when it "lurches"

Thanks for the info!!!!

The throttle by wire takes a little getting used to.
MS3DALE Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Yep,Mines the same way,On the 3rd complaint its like everyone else said,You have to push down on the pedal a bit more to override the cruise setting.

I just push the throttle down slowly until i see a speed increase and then i know where its at for passing.
Wingnut Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 I just try and put my foot throught the floorboard. Seems to work fine for me.

sledr Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 My '04 does this as well - I think it is a normal condition with the electronic throttle
MS3DALE Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 Yep,The TSB I got says its normal on the "chugging" or lurching back.
mmmikkke Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 So what your saying is, with the cruise set, and when you give it gas it actually slows down? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My 2005 2500HD drive-by-wire doesn't "slow down", the cruise holds it at whatever speed it's set at until my foot gets about 1/4-1/2" into the pedal, and then the truck starts to speed up. Then after my passing maneuver and I let my foot off the throttle it drops right back to the previously set cruise speed. Check again, and watch the speedometer. If it actually loses mph (and you haven't touched the brake or turned off the cruise), there's something wrong. It shouldn't slow down at all. But it might feel like it just a tad because you're pressing on the gas for that first 1/4-1/2" and nothing's happening yet. Or you could also try using the cruise to increase your speed instead of using the pedal. One of the buttons on the cruise adds 1mph every time you press it, the other one subtracts 1mph every time you press it. So you can press it 5 times in rapid succession and pass, then press the other one 5 times in rapid succession and drop back to your previous set speed. If you feel any lag as the cruise control tries to speed you up by 5mph, there's something wrong.
