Add XM To 2002 HD-2500

I put an Alpine XM receiver in mine. It's a 2001. I didn't want all the other boxes and I didn't want the FM modulated version. It's a bit pricey but worth it.

My brother has a 2002 2500 HD with the stock single CD player and wants to add XM to it. Any suggestions?

I put XM in my 02...I got the XM Commander. It is a direct connect, not FM modulated. You need an auxiliary input adapter which will give you RCA connections from your HU. Here is mine...

How can I tell if his radio has a AUX input for this device? Will it effect his On-Star system?

On-star affects the adapter...you have to read all the fine print to make sure the adapter is compatible with his radio.

You have to purchase an adaptor to add inputs. It will plug in where the factory cd changer (or slave tape unit) would plug in. If his radio has a CD/aux button, he is good to go. However, as mentioned, you will have to check out how to interface everything with the On-Star.

Personally, I have the slave tape deck in the Burb. Since I like to take the XM between the house, camper, and the truck, I got a SkyFi2 (portable). I have the home base, vehicle base and boom box, so I can listen to that thing everywhere. In the truck I use a cassette adaptor to play the XM, but I am going to buy the aux in adaptor before the end of the summer.

His truck has a CD/AUX button but when you press it if you have a CD in the radio it will play that CD. This is a single CD radio without the CD changer or remote cassette option that came stock in the truck.

Do you think I can still use the XCM commander and do I need to buy anything else with it?

Nope,The factory GM XM kit is only available for '03-up trucks/suvs.

That sounds like the same radio I have...if you don't want FM modulation, you need the auxiliary input adapter for the truck. His truck has Onstar, so be careful that the adapter is correct for his truck. The XM Commander is a bit of work to install, so if you're not handy go with a plug and play unit...then you won't have to worry about the Onstar situation. Good luck.
