Carb day at Indy...

Great weather, good practice, btw Danica Patrick was fastest at 225.5 mph. The boys better get faster! :D

At the Chevrolet display area, they had everything out for everyone's eyes and this is what I saw. The 2006 Suburban LTZ. Looks like a Z-71 package except SS chrome wheels, chrome step tubes, chrome strip along the luggage rack, chrome door handles and a chrome bar in the center of the grill. The Suburban itself was black and in all honesty when I first heard about this package, I was pretty hard on it because it was a "parts bin" package instead of something original, but it does look very sharp. The rep. said that the '06 Suburban and Tahoes would be a pretty short model year run. "Around" the first of the year the new model will be introduced as an '07. He said that while the LTZ package will not be advertised as "limited production", but because of the short model run there probly won't be a large number of them made. Since it is a "parts bin" package, those of us with a Suburban/Tahoe can get the parts we like fairly easily without having to trade.

Also there was the Hybrid truck. He told me at first, there was a premium charge of $1500 to get this truck, but now it will be priced exactly the same as a non-hybrid truck. He claims 18mpg city and 22 hwy. I have to admit, the 3 outlets in the bed would be VERY handy on the farm. If response from the public is good, next year this technology will make it to the heavy duty trucks and it will be available on the next generation Suburbans and Tahoes out of the gate.

Of course, the Corvette was the main draw and they were everywhere. They did have one Z-06 on display and I must say, it looks very impressive. The design team did a very good job with blending function with style instead of just "glueing" on vents and ducts here and there. The only thing I don't like about the new vette is the interior dash materials, especially the center stack looks a bit "cheesy" for a car like this. GM needs to look very hard at some import lux. cars for ideas here. While a vette is not a lux. car, the buyer for a car like this is used to finer things and deserves better quality materials. Other than that, I think the car is a home run!

As for the Cobalt they keep pushing, I wish them luck. They were pushing it pretty hard. If I were to close my eyes and ignore the fact that I don't like the looks, if I were to purchase one, I am not sure weather to put it in the back of my Suburban or on the luggage rack to get it home! :chevy: They look pretty small to me, but to each his own. I am quite sure his gas bill will be less than mine at the end of the month!

That is my GM update from the Indy Motor Speedway!
