Straightpipe on 2000 Suburban

This isn't a review of a branded product exactly, but I just gave my 2000 Suburban with the 5.3 the straightpipe treatment today. I've had this done before on a 94 GMC pickup and I really liked it so I thought "why not?".

I have one word to sum it all up: "RESONANCE"

I was expecting it to be loud but I was not really prepared for it to resonate through the cab so much. It's especially bad on a slow acceleration from, say, 30 to 50 mph. At idle it sounds really good inside and out. It's even tolerable once you reach highway speeds.

I'd guess the fact that there is such a large passenger compartment for it to echo through compared to the relatively small volume of an extended cab pickup really makes the difference.

I'm going to give myself some time to get used to it. Maybe I'm just shocked because the exhaust note was virtually nonexistant with the factory muffler in place, but I'd guess there's going to be a Flowmaster in my future to settle things down a little. I'll let you know how it compares to this open exhaust monster I'm driving now.

So if you're considering this be warned. I got more than I bargained for.

I have an 6.0 2004 EC Silverado and replaced the cats with Magnaforce hi-flow (3 in 3 out) along with a Magnaforce muffler.

I did get more pep/power for pulling the 5th which is what I wanted. The trade off is that I gave up the interior quietness!

Maybe due to the muffler right underneath the EC.
